View Full Version : Who do you want to keep?

Well, delisting time is coming around again and I believe that this year's will be our most important delisting. It will definitely contribute to the success of the club, and that doesn't just mean in a positive way. This is the real deal.

So, who do you think should stay at our great club out of this group. There's been huge discussion on who we should keep and who we should pull the plug on, so this is the best way to see who is our most formidable player out of a very unformidable bunch.

Who doyouthink the Crows should keep?

James Begley, for sure!

Begley would be the only one out of that lot I would keep.

I went for Marsh as we need ruck back up.

I went for Mattner because of his hardness. I know I bag him but I still think Marty could develop into a reasonable player. He did play some good games in 2002.

I went for Begley because he is obviously talented. Although his footy smarts are questionable (as are Mattner's come to think of it).

Schell and Nelson must go.

Skipworth and Smith I'm not too fussed if they stay or go.

Question: can Skippy stay on the rookie list or is he too old?

James Begley is clearly the best player from that lot and a player we should definately be keeping. I'd probably have Marsh second but only really because we need a backup ruckman. It's pretty sad that we are forced to keep him but lets hope we can pick up some young ruckman with some heart (something Marshy is often missing) in the draft, then we can get rid of him asap.

Begley ;) How could we even consider getting rid of him? :(

To play devil's advocate on all but Begley (who I voted for)

Matthew Smith: has been playing well in defence in the SANFL, takes a good mark and if he can put a bit more bulk on his frame might be a good backup to McGregor, or as a floating back

Daniel Schell: has the ability to take a good pack mark, has some pace and is tall. If he can put some more bulk on his frame and found some consistency, he could be a good full-forward - see Adelaide v Brisbane 2002.

Hayden Skipworth: tries his heart out and has shown good skills in the SANFL, and potential at AFL level in his few games.

Martin Mattner: strong tackling, if they can improve his decision making and kicking then he might develop well on a wing or forward flank.

Ben Marsh: if he can overcome his own lack of self-confidence, he is a good around-the-ground ruckman and a great tap, could displace Clarke if he actually got some heart in him.

Ben Nelson: tough midfielder, difficult for other teams to match up on because he is so strong. Very barrelling, but lacking in opportunity - good second-string midfielder though.

You must be kidding??????

BEGLEY

There is no way known he would even be considered for delisting - certainly not after just 1 year.

give me a break!

I don't know why so many think Begley is as safe as houses.

I'm sure his spot will come under consideration, particularly since we didn't trade anyone away this week. He was in and out of the side for the entire season and his form tapered towards the end.

That said, why isn't Doughty in this poll? He'd be in more trouble than Begley I would think.

I think that James certainly deserves more than 1 year to prove himself. I thought he showed real promise in the games he played......in fact I am not entirely sure why he wasn't in the side more.

Agreed Dogga would be on shaky ground, but I think he will survive delistings or he may be another Robert Shirley and get delisted and then picked up again in the draft.

i think we have to keep Mattner and Begley, they are both keys to our future, skipworth is boarderline and the others all have to go they have not shown enough to prove to me they are up to AFL ive seen smith play and i thought he struggled in the sanfl

Why would people want to delist Begley??????

The only one I went for was Begley - before he got homesick and the rest of it he was considered future captaincy material at the Saints.

We need to draft a young third ruckman - Clarke isn't aggressive enough or good enough around the ground, Biglands has all the physical attributes of a good mobile ruckman but is lacking something and Marsh is all-round crap.

Meanwhile poor old Lord Nelson is stranded on 0 votes? Kismet Hardy.

He'd be absolutely dead safe. He wouldn't even be crossing the AFC's mind as a delistment while there's Schell, Nelson, Smith and Crowell before you even have to think. "Our Ben" as noddy calls him or $%#^* ing Marsh as we call him, will survive by default.

Begley played 12 games, averaging 15 disposals in spite of almost zero ground time in 2 of these games.

Plenty worse than that in our squad.

Who else besides me picked Smith? thought everyone wanted him gone! - but as long as he stays at Sturt, it's all good!

Anyways.. more sensible ones I picked were Begley (I dont understand why people even want him gone - he's done nothing wrong), Skippy (his form in the sanfl this year at least should get him another year on the rookie list if not a promotion) and Mattner (Ayres obviously likes him going by the chances he gave him this year - just leave him at Sturt for a while too ;) :p)

Begs is very safe IMHO. It wouldn't even cross AFC's mind to even consider delisting him. Next year could be his breakout year.

I don't want Begley to leave, I thought he was possibly our best play against C'wood in Round 20 and was good throughout the year, but some others on this board were doubtful of him. So I put him in the poll. I picked him to stay though.

Just look at the poll results and it's pretty amazing to see the support for Beggers. And rightfully so. :)

Fair enough - I'll toss in Gallagher as the 5th one then.

It'd be nice if those percentages in the poll could be changed so that they were a percentage of the voters, not of the total amount of votes.

e.g. Begley with 18 out of 20 has an approval rating (to borrow an american term) of 90%. That 48.65% is a totally meaningless figure.

Just something I noticed. And not really relevant to this thread.

Pretty much how i see it,

Keep Begley & Mattner & if no replacement in the draft will have to pencil in Marsh's name also,

Still not keen on Skipworth burns the ball too much for my liking,

Ben Nelson 1 1.89%
Daniel Schell 1 1.89%

A big cheerio to Ben Nelson and Daniel Schell who swallowed their pride and were kind enough to vote on this poll.
