View Full Version : Why has Kasprowicz been picked as a replacement in the one-day squad?

I find the selection of Kasprowicz for the one-day tour to India a conserative and somewhat baffling one.
His Test figures are unimpressive (17 Tests, 47 wickets at 37), but his one-day international figures are even worse.
In 16 one-dayers he's taken 22 wickets at the poor average of 32.22; but what's even worse is that his economy rate is 5.2 Runs Per Over. Is there any Australian bowler in the last 15 years who has a more unimpressive record (for those who've played more then 10 matches)?.
As for the argument that he's been to India twice... so what? He did very well to get 5/28 in the 2nd Innings of the 3rd Test of the 1997/98 series, but apart from that his record in Tests in India is 5 wickets at an average of 92.8.
Surely a more innovative selection could've been done for what is after all, only a one-day series?

It seems a pretty needless tour and given the current spate of injuries it may be seen as a stop-gap measure; an experienced player to steady the ship. Certainly Matthew Innes has more pressing claims but maybe they didn't want to throw him in for his first representative appearance on a tour of India with a thin bowling lineup.

As a passionate QLD supporter, I am asking the same question. He has been playing well in both forms of the domestic competition but his best was a few years ago. I guess the quality of the 'young' talent (i.e. Innes, Clark from WA, Wright etc) was not up to the standard the selectors set.

Not in one-day games.Innes isn't a regular in the Vic's ING cup games.
I thought he played rugby now?

Innes must have killed a black cat. Finally the bowling stocks are incredibly thin... Finally the selectors have to consider him... But no, it's a ****ing ODI tournament! bah! He'd have to be first in line if there was a bloody first-class game on the tour, but he's a very average One-Day bowler.
Then, when the Aussies get back everyone will be fit again, and the test series will roll on without him.

McAlmanac why is it a meanless tour. We are up against 2 good teams and it will be competitive.
But to the topic, really looking forward to see what Bracken, Willams, Kasprowicz and most of all Ian Harvey can do.
I would think that one of the following will have a huge tour, like Symonds in the world cup. Ian Harvey is my pick. I think his bowling will do well over there. And by the end will have claimed the All-rounders spot. Or maybe Bracken might go well.

Because nobody really cares whether we win it or not, and in six months nobody will even remember.
Because Damien Wright and Adam Griffith play for Tasmania.

Casper has been picked for this tour for one reason and one only and that is his lion-hearted perfomrance the last time they toured India.
Not saying I agree with it.
Selectors should be rebuilding NOW not waiting for the team to slip.
Does he have a NSW background? Otherwise I really can't answer that one!! :D

Sick of the anti-Victorian stance of Cricket Australia. Can we vote to change the selection committee.
Hilditch hasn't got a clue
Boonie can't see past his mo and beer-gut
Border thinks he knows everything
As of Hohns..give it a rest.
I move that Bill Lawry be asked to be on the selection committee.

boo hoo poor vics. How has your team performed in the last 2 years?
Inness? Hah - Wright, Noffke, Rofe, WA and NSw's Clarks and Bracken are ahead of him.
Hodge? Forget about him, Siddons never played more than a one-dayer for australia and your talking like Hodge is a champion first class player. There are plenty of better middle order players than him.
Maybe if you had a decent opener, you might see a vic in this test side again.

Don't tell me you hate Kasprowicz as well as Brett Lee?:o
Go and do your research because he has always done well in the sub-continent. That's why he is in the ODI squad.

Please provide stats to back this up if you have done YOUR research.
Personalyl I would have thought Paul Rofe would have been a good bet, even though the paper said Clearly was under consideration.

We finished equal 2nd on points in the Pura Cup last year..not a bad start.
Decent opener? Matthew Elliott is still the best opener Victoria has got and must be stiff to continue to miss out, despite being prolific in run scoring. (get rid of Langer before he becomes embarrasing)
Shane Warne made a valid point in the last test coverage...Shane Harwood did well when given a chance to prove himself for Australia A, as did Matthew Inness (Australia needs a left-arm quick).

Elliot was finished after that tour of the windies, thanks to walsh and co. Hasn't been the player since that collision with Junior.
Warne is the exception, but I doubt he will last much longer. White could be thrown in the deep end, but he needs more time to develop.
Harwood is probably too one dimensional and he isn't the fittest bloke. He is a roughy but selectors will be looking somewhere else...

For yonks now I have been saying that the non youth policy will come back to bite Australia in the rear, and it finally has happend.
Players like McGrath, Waugh, Warne and Lehman do not have much to go so why on earth wouldn't you play a youngster against teams that aren't up to world standars

BINGO!!!!!
Damien Wright should be in for the simple fact that he is an incredibly economical bowler. Adam Griffith is another awesome bowler who should play for Aus in the future.

Tend to agree that Wright should be seriously looked at for higher duties. He could be a very good backup paceman

Griffith has only played 1 year of first class, so give him another year at least. He's only 25, so really he has to wait another 5 years before he is even considered to play for australia..;)

LOL
Do agree with Elliott being finished.
Kasprowicz past his used by date years ago its time to blood some youngsters.
Also How did Brad Hogg make the 2nd test team his crap, they should have played Cam White from Vic.
