After years of searching, Australia have found a genuine all rounder.
Excellent performance by Katich with both bat and ball. Won us the match in the end.
IMO, he should permanently replace Lehmann in the test side.

Had a wonderful test match, played very very well but i wanna see him do it more often at Test Level against stronger opponents before i call him a genuine alrounder. Has done well in this role for NSW and when given the chance in WA did it too but before hes considered a true alrounder he needs to do it a few more times and get good results. Definately deserves the opportunity to try do it but!
I remember Bevan taking something like 10 wickets ina match against the Windies in Adelaide a number of years ago.
Everyone was saying he should be our new all rounder. He never really done much after that.
I want to see Katich perform well over a number of matches better i start calling him our genuine all rounder.
The only thing Katich's performance proves is that Zimbabwe don't deserve to be playing Test Match cricket. Katich is not a top class bowler. Put him up against a strong batting line up (seeing some great stuff out of India at the moment) and he will struggle.
Seriously, if Lee had been injured before the match and left out, Katich would not have bowled as many overs and we probably would have won by an innings result again.
Also proves Hoggy can't concentrate for more than 10 overs.

Whos silly idea was it to bring out this pathetic Zimbabwe team anyway. They are absolutely hopeless and are only going to make some of our average cricketers look better than what they actually are.

He bowls well at the SCG and struggles everywhere else. Useful second spinner for Sydney tests but he needs to do more to prove himself as an all rounder.
Having said that, he should've been man of the match imo
Am friggin spewing he got his bag of 6 wickets. Those NSW selectors will be vindicated by his crap and unwarranted selection.

What a terrible 6 wicket haul. A combination of deplorable umpiring, dreadful batting and being caught on the boundry line from balls that can only be described as rubbish.
Sheffield Sheild is fast becoming the premier cricket competition in the world. International cricket is a joke.
He's at least a good a bowler as Hogg.
My thoughts exactly...
BTW, I don't rate Hogg at all !:p

Don't knock Bevo, his my hero!!
Katich deserved the chance, he was taking wickets at Pura level at the end of last season. Didn't bowl brilliantly, although it proves that he is better than Hogg, who I don't rate highly. Katich should remain in the team at six, which would give the Aussies another bowling option, extremely needed the way our bowling stocks are at present!!
Go Bevan!! Smash those Indians. :D

Katich was picked as a batsman. 1 ton in 2 yrs of Pura Cup matches. Hardly a bloke in form.
Don't be confused by the 6 for. Even Gilchrist would take wickets against the Zimbos.
Don't get me started on Michael 'Must protect my average' Bevan.

Katich was picked as a batsman. He was picked as an all-rounder.
But he's not an all rounder. He's an under performed batsman at state level and a part time bowler. If you wanted an all rounder try Symonds or Harvey on for size.

He came on as a bowler in the second half of last season and ended up with superb statistics to show for it. He's probably the 3rd best wrist spinner in the country now.
Harvey? Symonds? Don't make me laugh. These two are battlers at first-class level, let alone Test cricket.
If Australia wanted a pure batsman at #6 they would've gone for Love - who scored a hundred in his last Test - or Clarke who was in far better form with the bat than Katich last season.
1st Class Stats
Katich
Bowling - 56 wickets in 100 matches @ 37.46
Batting - 7304 runs @49.02
Symonds
Bowling - 150 wickets @ 37.66
Batting - 10,295 runs @ 41.51
Harvey
Bowling - 338 wickets @ 26.78
Batting - 5,816 runs @ 32.67
The 'battlers' figures seem to stack up pretty well to me. Symonds the batting all rounder and Harvey the bowling all rounder.
Must admit, am surprised to see Katich's average so high - must've been in the mid 50's not long ago.

Just last test Lehmann took wickets against the Zimbos at the WACA bowling left-arm finger spin...
If he'd played in this Test he'd have had a 10 wicket haul.
Let's not get carried away with Katich's achievements, but congratulations to him nonetheless.
Two were caught on the boundary on near-sixes, one by an absolute freak catch from Ponting that should have been four, and one extremely dodgy LBW decision.
Well done to Katich, he had some luck and made the most of it. But I don't think he's the saviour of Australian bowling.

Geographical factors rule out Harvey...HE'S A VICTORIAN!!! And he's not that flash...
Symonds? don't they only bring him on to slow the run-rate a bit?
Test cricket goes for five days, the bowlers aren't out to slow run rates

IMO, he should permanently replace Lehmann in the test side. I wouldn't class him as an allrounder but he is a decent 2nd spinning option. More of a batsman that bowls rather than an allrounder.

Lehmann will be back and he has a much better cricket brain that katich. He is every bit as good a bowler as Katich and can bat a lot better. Katich did well against the Zimbo's cant wake that away from him but really, they are only Pura Cup level.
Boof will be back :)

Boof shouldn't be back because we have some younger players that can add more value to the team.
