Tyson Goldsack #6
Born :May 22, 1987 | Height: 193cm | Weight: 88kg
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Debut: Round 8, 2007
Games: 69

Background:
Tyson was drafted in the 4th round of the 2006 National Draft with pick #63.
From that same draft we picked up Ben Reid (#8), Nathan Brown (#10), Chris Dawes (#28) & Brad Dick (#44).

Season 2011:
After missing the first half of the 2010 season and the pain of being omitted from the first Grand Final against St Kilda, Tyson was on a high following his recall for the Grand Final Replay win. He replaced Leon Davis in the side and went on to kick the first goal of the game. He was then selected to represent Australia in the International Rules series in Ireland.

The 2011 pre-season brought him back down to earth however after he was diagnosed with a viral infection upon his return from overseas. This would then become the 2nd time his pre-season has been derailed by illness. Tyson lost over 10kgs and had a week’s stint in hospital over the summer period.
After a slow recovery he finally resumed full training and played a few games in the VFL side before returning to the AFL for Round 8. He went on to play another 4 games over the ensuing 9 rounds before finishing the season having played the last 7 games including a 23 disposal, 9 mark effort in the Round 23 thrashing of Freo.
The Qualifying Final win against West Coast would turn out to be his last for the year as he had to make way for the return of Ben Reid.

Notable Facts:
Received an AFL Rising Star Nomination in 2007.
Tyson dabbled in the small screen in 2011 with teammates Cameron Wood, Alan Toovey & Travis Cloke when the quartet debuted on Aussie Soap ‘Neighbours’ during July.

He also endured further controversy after an off the cuff remark re Grand Final First Goal betting and his mum (she won $400 after he kicked the 1st goal) landed him in hot water. He was the third Pie to be questioned in the preceding 12 months over betting. He was subsequently cleared in July 2011 and able to focus on cementing his place in the Collingwood lineup.

2012 expectations:
He is obviously happy to play with the Pies and compete for his spot under Nathan Buckley as he could have no doubt found a new home at the end of 2011 after missing out in our last 2 finals.
It will be very interesting to see how much improvement is in him this year after his first full pre-season in three years. He is travelling along nicely at the moment so hopefully he will hit Round 1 at full tilt. Whether or not he is best 21 is yet to be seen. The departure of Leon Davis opens up a defensive spot and even though Tyson is not quite in the same mould, he does possess a penetrating kick that could be used very effectively to distribute the ball from our defensive area.
The return of Nathan Brown from his knee injury and the addition of Marty Clarke should keep things very willing amongst the litany of quality defenders the Pies have at their disposal. To say his work will be cut out for him to cement his place in our back six would be a gross understatement! Top 25 for sure, but of course only 22 can get named each week.
Best of luck Tyson!
