View Full Version : Shane Harvey
Rumour that Essendon have delisted Shane Harvey. Very fast, could be a genuine Phil Matera-like goal sneak. My Essendon mates all thought he got nowhere near enough game time for the Bombers. Any Bulldog fans think he is worth a look at pick 50 in the National Draft (if he gets that far)??

Would be ideal, we need the odd crumber as our others are gone or declining...
ie - Brown, Kolyniuk, Garlo (gettin worse), huddo etc...
My priority at pick #50 would be a player of this type
For the first time in years we have a tall forward line and you
want to get a specialist FP?
Johno, Smith, Robbins, Garlick, Eagleton, West, plus countless others can play this role better than Harvey.
With Rawling we will get 5 recycled, do we want to develop a side or just get clubs off-cuts?
Better off drafting Condos from Werribee.

Who would be of better value at Pick #50 then?
Agree that we don't want to overload the team with too many cast-offs, but I think he represents great value if still there at #50. Remember his brother was just a goal sneak in his first 3 years but has blossomed into a gun midfielder. Wraps on Shane are almost as high. The Bombers don't f*** up often, but they might have with this kid.
And the fact that he played well against us this year would be in the match committee's mind.

I'm not a draft expert but I'm sure we can do better.
Scott Clayton will know! As mentioned by others Skipper, Harris and Hargrave were all taken with picks later than 50.

We actually have a very deep list at the moment so I would suggest that we need to look at a long term project player with the 50th pick. We will actually need some players to play in the 2's for Werribee during the season to maintain a balance with the Werribee listed players. I think we may have to look at a midfielder type because we are a little overstocked for talls. :)
(Didn't think I would ever say that)
This might mean that we pass on local boys like McGhie or Boyd because they are KPP.

Yeah, its incredible in how things have changed in less than a week. To think we've got depth in our talls, there will be competition for places, and we'll be happy to pass on Kepler Bradley at pick 4 to get an inside midfielder (Sylvia or Dunn) when previously we would have been praying Bradley got through to us. Interesting & exciting times are ahead.

shane harvey is a dud. just because he has brent's brother doesn't mean he will be as good. i seem to recall steve kernahan had a brother called david who played with him at carlton, he was ****, shane harvey is in the same boat as him.

Faulkner and Cooney will probably debut in the forward line to ease them into AFL.
Clayton seems to draft taller guys late in the draft, I guess on the 'tall guys mature later' theory.
Someone else we can stop from playing with his brother :)
Now looks as though he will not be in the National draft, rather he will nominate in the PSD. Would expect him to be picked up by the Kangas with their first pick in the PSD (most others ahead of North look well stocked for small specialist forwards)

It looks quite possible that this could be a bumper pre season draft. Already some well known quality will be in the pool and there may yet be more surprises.
Some clubs are unlikely to participate due to salary cap restrictions. Meaning the talent could spread among just a select few.
Perhaps we should consider 2 selections in the pre season draft if the pickings are rich but the pickers are few.

Doc,
Have been thinking just this over the last couple of days as more threads appeared on the main board re the players in the PSD.
If, say, at least 4 sides have cap problems (Lions, Bombers, Hawthorn, Swans? any others?) then we effectively have Picks #1 and #13.

Im confused with Sydney, every second person is saying they are struggling with the cap and everyone else says they operated at about 95% this year.
Does anyone know where abouts they really are?
