Cross didn't impress me much in his early games, but his performances at Werribee this year were outstanding and his game in round 22 was promising. He is exceptionally fit and hard hard it so it's a shame to see him lacking opportunities. Frankly, if he's not going to get them with us then I'd rather see him at another club getting a fair run than languishing in our feeder side. Hopefully he'll do better next year.

I Love Daniel Cross

I'm a big fan of Crossy, and as I've stated in previous threads, he is the perfect player on our list to become the next "Brett Kirk". Our midfield is currently overloaded with attacking players, and we desperately need one or two defensive minded midfielders capable of doing a job on the opposition's key midfielders. If Brodie Holland and Brett Kirk can transform their careers in one season, then surely Crossy should be given the opportunity to do the same. Dimma and Garlick are absolutely not the answers as run-with players for us.

Great Call Sedat - the next Brett Kirk - that is exactly the type of player we need and Crossy could develop into.

Robbins = Brett Kirk (more or less)
We get robbins out of the defensive back half and play as you suggested as a negating midfielder (he's played this type of role in the back half as a defender)
They are both basically the same age (robbins one yr less), same height (give or take 5 cm) and same weight.
I've got big wraps for Robbins I recon he'll go great guns this year.

Whoever it is that play the negating midfield role for us in 2004, it can't be Dimma and Garlick again. They couldn't put the screws on a bottle of wine. I think Robbo gives us great drive out of the back pocket, and can mind dangerouns forward pockets as well. I liken Crossy to Kirk because Crossy can win his own football, and has good clean skills, so he can hurt offensively, and he has great endurance, so he will be able to run with the likes of Buckley and Crawford. He is also 185cm, a good height to go with anyone from Judd to Bell.

Robbins is not accountable enough to be a run win player. He has had plenty of goals kicked on him while playing back. If we can find someone else to play there I would play Robbins up the ground in an attacking role.

I would be disappointed if Cross is delisted. There is improvement left in him.

I agree with what you say about cross, I wouldn't want him delisted, likewise dima and garlic I would think have little improvement if any left.

Cross just needs more time, Kirks been around since 99, Cross had his first game last year 02, so based on that alone, hes 3 years behind. Thats why I recon Robbins would be better in the short term, hes got the strength and age behind him and he has played that role, rotate cross through during the game but not as a full time position.

As for having goals kicked on him, he wasn't the only one last year. Bloody hell the ball was bouncing from one end of the ground to the other that quick it's hardly suprising

With Grant or Rawlings at CHB it might take a bit of the pressure off Robbins and he can stay on the back line.
I have seen him play some good footy up the ground and he should be a permanent back pocket.

I actually think that Cross should be given a go in the back pocket.

Has the phil dent's about him.

As for Robbo, well he has proven me wrong over the past two years with his courage! What is his best position though?

Wasn't Phil Dent a tennis player. What are you trying to say about Cross. He has a good backhand?

Dont think he has the pace off the mark to go with a small forward on the lead.I also want Robbins to be removed from the back pocket. Not only do I think he is unsuited to that position but he could give us so much from a wing or elsewhere. You get Hahn,West,Birss,Cross,Robbins,West and co rotating through the midfield and all of a sudden we have some very good ball winning ability in there. We have Jason Johnson playing in the back pocket FFS!

Hey Ghost, what was his name again? Always did get it mixed up!

In any case I can remember many a player stepping side ways when Dent was coming through. Can't remember to many getting up quickly either!

You may have been thinking of Matthew.Had a couple fair seasons for the dogs before being placed on the end of season conveyor that runs between Whitten oval and Glenferrie.
Im not sure if the hawks have woken to the fact that the product coming off at the other end is defective.
eg.Dent,Cox and Hunter.
Maybe thay have just paid us back with some sus Veale.

Drafted and we could have got Martin Pike instead, he has only played in 4 premierships since.

Phil Dent has a son playing on the circuit now. His name is Taylor and he is qualified as an American for Davis Cup purposes.

Possibly cos of the team not the player choice, dogs could have picked up primus, paxman which based on the last few years would have been handy.
Also could have redrafted aitkins (axe) although there were some interesting stories floating around in his last year, something about his brother :D

I thought Daniel Cross was very unlucky not to be given more of a chance this year in the Bulldogs side. He played some good footy down at Werribee. It would be disappointing if he didn't get more chances in 2004.
