View Full Version : Official Changes to the Coaching Staff

I have listened to John Reid on 5AA today and there were some changes made to our match commitee.
Darren Jarman has been promoted to full time assistant and will be our forward line coach. I reckon this is a great move.
Mark Mickan still remain as our ruck coach. We are introducing m a new program that will see us spend more time developing the youngsters. Mark Mickan will be responsible for this. I can't say I am pleased with Mickan getting the gig. I would much rather Jarman or Craig getting this role.
Moore and Burton (???) are unable to be part of the match commitee in 2004. So they basically resigned.
Robbie Curraders (???) is moving on and we are getting someone from AIS as a specific weight coach. Schwerdt will spend a bit more time on recovery side of things.
Are these the changes you are talking about Jars458 or were you suggesting there will be more delistings later in the week??????

I heard there was a possability of more delistings at the end of the week - it was on channel 10 news last night - we know how reliable that is :p

Wow, we will now have a forward coaching our forwards! Very happy about this.

Have no real problems with Micken taking over ruck duties from Moore. He was a pretty good tactician & far more suited here than being a forward coach.
At least AFC recognise the importance of developing our youngsters. Probably should bring in a good developmental coach to do this role though.
Who is this Burton (not of the Brett variety?)

Curathers can be replaced. Still have Craig & Schwerdt, so they should be able to find a good general fitness person as a replacement.

Not Brett but Craig Burton.
He was our runner - perhaps he was on the selection commitee also.

Mickan has been our ruck coach for the last 2 years. Moore has been long gone from coaching ranks;)
No it is not Burton of Brett variety. I agree I would have taken someone else in for the development. Hopefully next year we can get Carey as the forward line coach and give jars the development role and let Mickan concentrate on coaching ruckman and developing the young ruckmen we will select in the draft.

Thanks Stiffy, the Flinders Ranges were great (as was the weather!)
So Micken has been both the forward & ruck coach then. Still OK with him being the ruck coach. What role has been Moore playing then?
PS. Yes, I'm happy that Marsh has been delisted. ;)

Yes Mickan has been in charge of both forward line and ruck for the last 2 years. From my understanding Moore has just been a part of match commitee but hasn't had a coaching role. From next year he won't even be on the commitee.

I think Burton is Craig Burton. I'm struggling with my memory but he played for either North Adelaide or West Adelaide. I'll have a stab and say it was North. Wasn't Burton also one of our runners this season as well??
Robbie Carruthers was, amongst other things, the weights coach. Reading between the lines you could be excused for thinking that he was moved on.
Jars as the full-time forward coach and part of the match committee is a terrific move.
Moore and Burton moving off the match committee will lead to a smaller match committee which should be a plus. In general the smaller the committee the more effective it is.
They reckon that the giraffe originally was meant to be a horse but sadly was designed by a committee. ;)
Is Peter Curran still there? I guess he would be the defensive coach, with Craig on charge of the midfield?
Very good move with Jars as our forward line coach.
Now if could just straighten up the game plan I'll be happy.

We definetly need to straighten up. We should take a leaf out of Brisbane's book. I am still angry that we go down the flanks too often.

Yep. Curran is still there as defence coach.
All that's really changed is that they've gone from 3 and a half assistant coaches to 4.
Jars takes over the forward line, and Mickan takes over the ruck and fast tracking the younger brigade.
The match committee is now minus Terry Moore and a runner Craig Burton.
As far as straightening up the game plan, that depends on the quality of your CHF and FF as Brisbane have clearly shown. If we can have Carey and Stevens on the field all year that will go a long way towards straightening up our game plan.

We definetly need someone who can get our boys bigger and stronger. Our players size is peanuts compared to Brisbane's

He also holds the distinction of being the man responsible for kicking North Adelaide's only goal in the 1989 Grand Final.
Ah memories :)

Good to hear they have finally put me on the coaching staff
Not before time.
Stiffy - there will be more changes to the list before the end of the week is what my source tells me.
Heard on 5AA that Rehn was a chance to move to the AFC coaching staff. Can't see that happening this year. Maybe next year.

Rehn won't be moving anywhere unless it is the top job. The amount of time he spent out of the game and the last year at Hawthorn where I think he was given some sort of quasi-coaching role has meant he has essentially done his yards in terms of the coaching caper.
Rehnny has said he was born to coach, people don't say that unless they want to be in charge.

I can see I am about to be shot for the next comment.
BUGGER OFF SHAUN REHN!
I have lost all respect for him. I wouldn't want him back at the AFC.

Correct on both counts - he went from Westies to North. A left footed HFF....
