View Full Version : just following orders

Who are the players that might need some weribee time to get their style of play ironed out (accountability, taking their turn to put their head over the ball, pressuring the opposition when they have it, etc...)
And who are their possible replacements from those perhaps less skilled, but more willing to follow orders?
heres my attempt:
Johno: rarely clears or tackles, positioning to receive is his first priority
Bowden: spectator when they have the ball, could work harder to present...fitness?
MacMahon: see Johno, plus doesnt work hard enough to present
Eagleton: Seems to want to contest, but lacks the know-how to use his light frame effectively
Harrison: slow, the opportunity to put his body on the line seems to pass him by - general spectator
Guido: See Eagleton
Power: See Guido and Eagleton, plus confidence issues?
Bandy: Too nice. does not use his big body to hit packs or crunch players - wants to use athleticism alone to win the ball.

I think you have pretty much covered it well there. In regards to Johnno I think perhaps what he brings to the team far outweighs the lack of accountability issue. The others don't take strong overhead marks or present as often as he does, blokes like Power, McMahon and Eagle really need to add the defensive string to their bough because until you are as good as Johnno with the attacking side of the coin we can't afford to have you.

and their possible unfasionable replacements... I think these guys are the 'collingwood players' of our team.
Dimma: is prepared to dig in head first to win the ball when it is his turn
Birrs: see dimma, but light frame holds back his effectiveness
Boyd: need to see more of this guy, but seems to have a nice balance of skills
KMac: will attack the ball and man, but descision making is questionable
Robbins: see kmac

Drop Johnno? That would be a biggie! Guess the whole team could do with better tackling and accountability but does playing with the Bees iron them out apart from being a wake up call? Lets hope Eagle has turned the corner for good and won't need to be dropped again.

Id 'drop' johno from the midfield and replace him with a dimma, boyd or birrs. Let him play on a forward flank where his pros are maximised and is cons dont hurt so much.

reserves players are smaller and less intense, so our frailer guys have a better chance to practice body-work without getting humiliated. plus the wake-up call wouldnt hurt.

I'm sorry but there's no excuse to drop Johnno at all. Do you want to see us bottom again next year?

Lets drop our best player because he has a weakness  Have u thought of the damage dropping Johnson could do to the club?? And I don't think any of your reasons for dropping him are reasonable anyway. He is a very unselfish hard-working player

I think that as good as Westy is, that he needs to be told to tackle a player and not run 5 yards off him with hands waving in the air.
This style is a throw back from the Neesham days with all opposition players having worked this out.
I also thought that with West using this tactic that it created a bad example for our younger players and became infectious hence, causing the team playing frustratingly unaccountable football last year.
If he does again next year I would give him a spell in the 2's
I'm sure stefoid is pulling our legs... or maybe he's suffering from post-traumatic season stress disorder. Drop Johnno? hahahahaha, nice one.
I reckon we should wait and see how they go in the first few games of the year, and if there is a change (improvement) in attitude, accountability, etc, from this season. If not, then they should definitely be dropped.
I notice you didn't mention Gilbee - he spent time at Werribee precisely because he didn't follow orders.

Exactly. If we want some guys to take be able to take a hit then get these younger blokes into the gym. But drop Johno? Hird doesn't go in either but Essendon wouldn't drop him would they?

Sorry I didn't read that bit. I agree with Johno on the forward flank definately his No.1 position.

Lets drop Johnno and Westy. Whilst we are at it lets also drop Bubba and Grant. Surely a spell at Werribee would help the team. Morale would just go through the roof. Those guys are just way to old anyway. Even better still why don't we just delist them!!!! Bring on the wooden spoon for the next decade and a half.

Oh Hot to Trot,
lets not be to serious about the comments on dropping two of our guns.
They would never be dropped, but this doesn't mean that they cannot improve further.
Whilst Westy is our best under the pack player surely you do not support his antics when he wastes his energy running along side a player and waving his hands in the air.
It is kids stuff and a bad example from a leader.

I never said that there wasn't any room for improvement. Of course there is and there always will be. But to suggest that we drop these players is ludicruous as they are proven top line players whose weaknesses can easily be rectified. If we send them back to the Bees it will only be the doggies that suffer.

Only a complete moron would suggest dropping BRAD JOHNSON
Your posts are by far the worst, and you've made 2,000 of them...

I personally never thought Johnno had a problem with accountability. I must have been watching a different player over the last 7 years.
