This is what the headlines will be at the end of 2005.
How long will James Hird play for?
His body will let him down as usual forcing him to retire

The rest of the competition can only hope his body continues to fail him.
Will play 3 more seasons.
When does his contract expire?

Didn't he sign a 5 year deal in 2000?

I may be misunderstanding the proposition but given Hird's history with injury if he were to play on until the end of 2005 on the assumption that he had played another two full seasons after this one I reckon that would represent great value to us.

Faith, people, have faith!!!
30 years old and was in the best form of his career. Better than his brownlow for in 96 when he played a full season (As opposed to 19 votes from 13 games), and back then without the close tagging he' come to expect these days.
What's to say that he won't do a Robert Harvey and play for the next 5 years? I think he'll go on for as long as his body can sustain him.

To me as hirdys career goes on, he is getting better!!
Let pray we can find a good midfielder to save him from have to go in their when we are down.
Not saying the boys we have in the middle arent good, coz they are, but we need someone who can takeover from hirdy having to go in there. A year with hirdy in the forward line will see him kick 35+ goals!

2 years as an absolute superstar, but burned out at the end of that
Or 5 years as a rock-solid defender...?
hmmm...I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too...

Huh?
Hird is the type of player who could kill himself no matter where he played on the field.
With a player like Hird, you put him where he is the most value to the team, and you simply pray that he doesn't get injured.
