View Full Version : The irritating thing about bonus discs...

One thing I really hate is when one of your favourite bands brings out a CD, which you rush out to buy, then some time down the track they "re-release" it with a bonus disc e.g with most recent Foo Fighters CD- rushed out to buy it, and then when I was in JB the other day, I saw it with a bonus disc of b-sides and live stuff. Why should loyal fans be 'punished' for wanting to get an album straight away? Is it really fair that we should be asked to pay twice? Really, it should operate the other way, with bonus disc "only available for limited time" etc

Bonus CDs that are released months/year after the original release is just a way for the record companies to make more money because they realise there will be plenty of suckers that will pay $30 for the same cd.
There have been a few times when bonus cds have been released at release date and not months later.

Record companies squeezing every last sale out of a cd.
Re: Foo Fighters, I got when it came out and got a bonus DVD, I haven't seen that around since. Also, Metallica brought out a DVD with their CD and it isn't available anymore and another example Meatloaf who had a bonus cd available at release. So there are exceptions, but yeah it does get annoying when you see it happen.
Simialar thing is the Best Of cd that comes with 2 knew tracks. That can suck if you have the original CDs.
They like to put out those bonus discs when a band tours. You buy the album, then the band tours and there is a 'new' release with 6 bonus tracks. They should offer the bonus CD separately as an $8 EP.

True fans happily assume the position while the object of their worship rams it home.. without lube.
Suckers.

With most albums, the bonus disc usually comes out with the initial release, as a limited addition.

This is another reason why piracy is good.

Has anyone actually bought an album a second time because of a new bonus disk? I've been tempted to on ocassions. But I figure its hardly worth $25-30 for a disc with 4 or 5 songs.

They often do this with live albums too. Include one song which hasn't been previously released on an album. At least you get a different sound with the songs you already have though.
