Reading the paper this morning. The Series final got 2.2million TV's tuned in(absolutely CRUSHING Idol) and because of that figure, theyre going to do a 3rd series, theyll be back in 2004:D.

and Mick Molloy is a legend! Still as plain as an Arrowroot biscuit!:D

Mick Molloy could be just awesome in the role couldn't he ?

Imagine the Kel/Brett interaction with him.

And how good was William McInness as Sandy Freckle ?, I laughed everytime he spoke. "G'Day, G'Day Foxy Lady...."

They pick great roles for their guest stars, like Frank Woodley as the creepy wrestling/dire straits fan.

I think the show still has life in it, which some would have doubted at the end of the first series (life beyond the 2nd series that is.), but with bringing in Kath's ex and Kim and Brett's adventures in parenting I think they can go on.

One of the best things about this show is that there are no weak links in the cast, all great comedians and all bring something to the show (especially magda ! what a legend !)

Rumours abound that a 'Kath & Kim' feature film is in the works.

I've got mixed feelings about the show. While it can be funny, there is a nasty undercurrent behind all of its humour in that we laugh at the characters and not with them.

To my way of thinking, Turner and Riley should be taken to task for their snobbery and cheap exploitation of life in the suburbs.

I live in what could be called the suburbs, not the outer suburbs, but I am close enough to Sunshine and St Albans and only around the corner from Maribyrnong, which is where Bretty was when the baby(I am not even going to try and spell the name.

I see people who could be extras for Kath and Kim all the time. Hell I am even one myself. You have to laugh. You laugh at the hypocrisy, the bull****, the fights, the fashions, the hairstyles- everything. Its all funny.

I think they are extremely unfunny. If Australians like sitting there watching people put on dicky accents and make stupid comments and names then it is a sad nation.

The high ratings for Kath and Kim reflect the poor programming from 7 9 and 10 on Thursday nights.

A few weeks ago, people from Fountain Gate (where Kath & Kim is set) were ringing up talkback radio complaining about it...not because it made fun of their area, but because it's not actually filmed at Fountain Gate & they wanted to be able to see Kath & Kim at their shopping centre :p :D (It's filmed at Southland).

I'm pretty sure that this last season was filmed at Fountain Gate, well the inside shots were. They still show Southland from the air but i'm fairly sure the inside is F/gate because all of the local newspapers ranted about how Kath and Kim were seen around the shops.

These people seem to be under a misapprehension that satire consists of holding up a mirror to society. If you wanted to see the 'real' lives of the people who are portrayed in this series, why wouldn't you just take a train to St Albans, or Broadmeadows?

The fact that the series accurately reflects its subjects is no reccomendation. Real life, as such, is not interesting enough to occupy prime-time. Before anyone mentions 'Big Brother' as rebuttal of this point, you'll only be re-enforcing my argument. That's why they invented fiction, so we can be taken out of the tawdry.

I look upon Kath & Kim as a deeply flawed documentary. To encourage people to identify with aspects of characters' lives is a totally different thing to making people laugh by saying things which are actually funny. To paraphrase Led Zepplin, "Does anyone remember funny?" It's the same as that turkey, 'The Castle'. It's the comedy of embarrassment and the viewer is the butt.

Finally, I don't know why, but I find Australian female comedians singularly unfunny. It may have something to do with having paid money to see them perform and consistently being disappointed.

Having said that, there's not a long list of funny Australian men either. Still, I suppose what is hilarious to one person can be a bore to others.

I have watched plenty of episodes, actually gave the show a chance. I found the show extremely unfunny. I can realise they're trying too hard to make you laugh - with those mock accents and decent to terrible jokes. Whilst sometimes - only rarely, I might elict a slight giggle, overall, I found it to be very boring and not too funny. Well, to be fair, I tried watching the show again - until I found it annoying to the extreme. Basically put, I have no idea why such a show got good ratings in the first place. IMO, it's overhyped and overrated, no matter what critics say about it in a positive manner.

I'd rather get stuck in a room and watch Everybody Loves Raymond than watch that ever again. You can accept it or reject it - but the bottom line is that just because I hate Kath and Kim, doesn't mean I have no sense of humour. I never knew loving that show was a prerequisite.

Parts of the last episode were shot at Highpoint as well. The bits where Kel has gone shopping with Brett were shot outside the ABC shop there.

Comedy is different things to different people, and while Kath and Kim will never stand up to detailed deconstruction I still find it a cack.

I agree. Kath and Kim, is a completely over the top and exaggerated beat up of life in the suburbs. I am sure most people could recognise any of the characters in the show as someone they know or the types they have see around Highpoint or other shopping centres.
It is a complete and utter **** take and not meant to be taken seriously. If you don't see it for the **** take it is, then you'll never see the humour in it.

I defy anyone to tell me they have never recognised someone they know or even themselves at time in the characters in the show!

I'm surprised that there are so many negative comments about K&K. There's nothing wrong with disliking it, but why bother posting in that case?

Comedy is very much a matter of taste. How popular was Benny Hill and yet to many (me included) he was incredibly unfunny. Skilts may dislike the embarassment side of the show, but embarassement and pain has basis of alot of comedy over the years and will continue to be so.

What is sad is the complete lack of decent Australian made sitcoms. Only the ABC seems capable of putting out decent comedies, and that is at the rate of one every three or four years. Have the commercial stations put out a genuinely funny sitcom since Kingswood Country?

That was more or less my exact bias going into this show, so watching it I wasn't expecting much. And it didn't dissapoint! I found it to be not wonderful, but not crap either. I could handle watching it again. Of course there's only one joke to it - i.e. taking the **** out of suburbanites, which is not such a bad topic. I like the fat netball chick. But it didn't make me laugh out loud like you'd want from a comedy, and nothing brilliant happened. I liked Tony Martin as the Aldridge Prior- style gobshyte. But for mine, if they're gonna take a mundane topic and make a series out of it, it flat-out needs more jokes. Being droll and subtle for 13 episodes is well beyond any Australian sitcom writers, by the looks.

For me it is mildly amusing and passable with a few cool moments and fun observations, but nothing to write home about. Maybe I'm missing the magic that's meant to be there? I thought The Office was a masterpiece, but lots of people didn't get it or couldn't stand it. And I thought Black Books was the greatest British comedy since Fawlty Towers, but no one's really heard of it or made a song & dance. So comedy is quite personal like that.

I don't think people are eeediots just for liking K&K... it's not like we're talking "Everyone Loves Raymond", or anything.
