Bit disappointed/surprised with a couple of the rookie delistings, namely Pratt and Tandogac, but there you go.

What do you think of Weller's delisting, SB?

Now that was a stupid question, Ripper. The most ridiculous question you've ever asked. What do I think? You know what I think.

Further surprises could be in store. No announcement as yet on Pike, Copeland and McRae.
Sorry to see Weller de-listed. I would have like to see him promoted onto the seniors list.
Surprised Morisson has been kept.
Prat and Tandogac perhaps should have been kept on the Rookie list for one more year at least. I can also understand that if the assessment was that they come up short of the mark for AFL players, why keep them and deny someone else an opportunity next year.
Now there are a few places vacant for next year. It appears like some silent house cleaning is taking place.

Bushie and Pikie have not signed as yet according to todays Rail.
The club is bragging that they have had their players take pay cuts to stay together.I have heard from a little birdie that what they are offering Pike and Copeland is just above what a 1st year player gets.
Maybe Aka shouldn't have gloated he refused to take a pay cut.It stinks.

It's no big loss if we lose Copeland. It won't matter to the structure of the team. We should offer Pikey a 2 year contract with more money than what we're offering now and then deal with Copeland. Pikey is more important to us than Copeland.

If I had to choose between one of them, it would be Pike.

But White should retire. He won't play more than 8 games next year.

Twin thats why we need to rookie LIst James Rozynski.....

i still reckon they will put Kev & Pratty Back on the rookie list...

It's no big loss if we lose Copeland ... so hes the one you dont like this week hey SB......

But White should retire. He won't play more than 8 games next year. ... want to put your money where you mouth is...?

What exactly are you getting at? As I have said over the last 2 months. If we lose Copeland, it will be no big loss. I said in another thread a few months ago if we can get someone better for Copeland, well why not do it. Copeland is a favourite of mine, however if I had to choose between him and Pike, I would choose Pike.

Copeland tends to do the team things and he tries every week even though his skills aern't that great. We have Pike who can play CHF and can play anywhere and is vitally important to our team structure. We have Hadley, Notting, Shattock, Brennan and then Selwood, Corrie, MacDonald on the wings who could all fill in for Copeland, so Copeland is not a huge loss. It's a minor one.

White is nuts playing on. He struggled this year. He only stayed in the team due to injuries and we didn't want to play young players who aern't capable of playing at AFL level physical wise.

It's not going to get easier for White from here on in. We have the younger/fringe players in Hadley, Notting, Shattock, Brennan who are fitter and can provide more to us than what White can. And we have guys like Selwood, Corrie and MacDonald eager for a chance. White is going to get taken over and I will be surprised if he plays more than 8 games next year.

White should retire for the good of the team so we can keep Copeland and Pike who have at least 8 years and 2 respectively whereas White will struggle to play on a consistent and regular basis. Not to mention our young players who havn't played much who are the future of the club. The future is what we need to look out for.

If Chris Scott, Brad Scott and Aaron Shattock were 100% fit come finals and stayed that way during the finals series, I doubt White would have played in the finals and the Grand Final.

SB what are you talking about. Copeland is a raking huge penetrating kick, he tackles hard and does the 1% ers, you know the team things.I would prefer a young QLD player who is on just above minimum wage to another interstate young draftee who gets homesick.

You can't get cap concessions for encouraging the game along in QLD , then delist a good young QLd player. It don't make for young QLD boys wanting to play the game, if they think their only local team doesn't really want QLD players.Just look at Sheldon and Pratt being delisted as rookies. Pratt had a sensatinal year and played extremely well, and was shafted.

A side issue of this is that its getting local Country Qlders talking around here. The local Leos club have Robbie Copeland as their Patron, and its the talk of the teenagers. They obviously want their Patron of their youth club to be around for a few years. Having him as their patron has encouraged these uneducated Thugby kids to actually learn our game and hold their own on AFL.It would be a shame to think that Copeland could be playing elsewhere next year for whatever reasons. We need to encourage the youth of Queensland to play AFL.This needs to be a 2 way thing, our club needs to treat the local players well, not like crap as they have been doing for yeas. They think that because they are local they will want to stay, and thus offer them peanuts to stay.Thats appaaling for local football, as they local boys have family and friends who talk, and is not good PR for our club.

Now I will get off my soapbox, and get off to work.

Copeland's probably still on his honeymoon, so I'm not surprised about the delay.

Copeland may not be the most skilled player but surely he's got to be in the best 22?

Just looking at the taggers in the team:

Hart - 1 more year
B. Scott - more valuable a part of the midfield rotation.
Ashcroft - retired.

On that basis alone you'd have him in the team.

This post certainly created some discussion.

I think you will find that it is not unusual for most teams to "delist" their Rookies at this time. It puts these players into the draft and gives them a chance at a senior listing somewhere else rather than being "tied" as a rookie. It also means that the Lions can "pick and choose" which Draft selection they can list them on (if they want to keep), subject to availablity and who else is available at the 3rd and 4th rounds.

My guess is that this is the case with Weller and Pratt, I also think that it is likely that some other clubs showed interest in Joel Macdonald and therefore the Lions decided to promote him now rather than risk waiting for the draft.

I understand Weller can't be rookied again - he has been 3 years and that's the max. The Lions must doubt that he's is critical to their future and therefore giving him the chance to be picked up elsewhere. Someone like Melbourne or Bulldogs could do with a strong bodied type like Weller and that would give him a chance to make it.

I agree with Campbell, that prior to his injury Pratt was probably our best rookie. Wouldn't be surprised if he's "drafted" or at worst re-rookied.

What's happening with Morrison? Has he gone or is he staying.

As for Copeland, it would be surprising if he left Qld - must just want a better deal.

Shelton will be picked up in the rookie draft again with Tandogac. Pratt, well my understanding was he missed most of the year with an injury so therefore he couldn't have had a sensational year that you made out he had. He could be picked up again, but I doubt it.

Pratt played a good two-thirds of the season, SB. Very good, in fact.

Careful, SB.

From my (albeit) limited viewings of the Reserves, Pratt looked the most "AFL ready" out of all the rookies. He's got a big body, and can certainly play. I'd be disappointed if he wasn't kept on our list in some way, shape or form.

yeah... i reckon that as well.. & i saw most of the games.... he is a very good player & if we dont happen to keep Weller & with the loss of Wright... we really do need bigger, more 'solid' players to stand up when we need them in the seniors AS well as being competitive against the ever increasing size of state league players....... when i spoke to him last he was pretty sure that he was staying & that it would all be figured out soon....

& i really do hope that we keep Kev... he improved with every game he played (played the most of any reserves player).. hes fast & has good skills.....

as much as i hate to say it i really reckon that we will re-rookie list both these boys before we look @ nugget... hes a damn good player... but hes small & he also had injuries which kept him from playing his best but he certainly improved after this knee scrape towards the end of the season....,

Starting to look a bit thin on the backup CHF/CHB wth Weller, Morrison and Pratt delisted.

Morrison delisting may reopen the door for Weller and/or Pratt?
