By now we have all seen the Phantom Drafts and should have an idea who will be picked up barring a few suprises. With us having a senior list of list of 37and a veterans list of 2 we are able to have 5 rookies. With Aaron Edwardes being retained we have 4 more spots. Who should we list?

For me it would be

Michael Embley (Swan Districts)
Clancy Rudeforth (again)
Nick Sas (Swan Districts)
Justin Wilson (East Fremantle)
or
Lukas Teague (South Fremantle)

Michael Embley obviously. And Lukas Teague. He sounds like the arch-type player we should rookie-list.

I think I read somewhere that Clancy's been released.

I think you can only retain players on the Rookie list for 2 years and then you have to redraft them next year if you want to have them Rookied again.

Ok, so you're saying we should re-rookie Clancy.

Can't see any logical reason why, at best he is an average/good WAFL player. There are other players in the WAFL who would be better prospects for the Rookie List.

I just thought that it was a given because of the fact that he is still training with us even though he has been delisted. Beeck took a few years but that was because of injury. Maybe its better the devil you know.

What are your thoughts Yak. Who would you like to see on the rookie list.

Some are suggesting Pettigrew will miss out on the draft. Would love him on a rookie list.

I think you're on the right track with Embley, Sas and Teague although don't be overly surprised if someone takes Teague. Off the top of my head Franz, Hayto and Ruck from Claremont and Greatwich from EP could be worth a chance, no doubt there are a few others maybe dasler or sera etc., might throw a few more in.

I forgot about Pettigrew, don't worry he will get drafted you can be very sure of that.

I don't know whether your question is directed to me but if so, at best I see Embley as a Rookie prospect and a long term project at that. I feel a lot of people have got a bit carried away because he is the brother of Andrew, he is an entirely different type of player and to compare him to Andrew is inappropriate. Nevertheless he does have ability and I wont be surprised to see him make it one day.

I'd be inclined to only rookie Franz out of that lot, had bad luck with injuries, otherwise he would be up there with the best ruckman available.

Franz is very mobile for his size and I feel in the long run he could develop into a KPP given the right guidance, the big improver from Claremont, as I saw it, was Ruck and if I had to pick one it would be him.

What about Brennan from Subiaco?

I could be wrong but I think he may be too young. I know that he can play Colts again next season.

Does anyone know when the clubs have to submit their Rookie Lists for 2004?

I guess who we rookie list will depend greatly on how the AFL draft fares. I don't know if we should pick Clancy up again - he did suffer from OP in 2002, but he would really need to be a long term prospect (similar to Beeck).

Oh boy we have had some Rookie Listed players over the years who we thought/hoped would make it big. Anyone remember how we use to give Andrew McCarrey big wraps? Now he isn't even playing WAFL!

True that. He was meant to be the next big thing at the eagles.

Whatever happened to McCarrey?
