One of the best half back flankers in the modern era, always cool in a crisis, excellent decison making under pressure and was a great captain in the twilight of his career. Always consistent winning best and fairests 10 years apart is testiment to that.
There is no need to list individual performances that are characteristic of his other teammates, instead I will remember McKenna as a reliable player who was one of the most integral ingredients to our famed backline of the early nineties.
bluey mckenna was/is mr reliable.
my fav eagle of all time.

If I had to choose someone to go into war with, I would choose Mr Mckenna. I know he would fight hard, tooth and nail even. You know what your going to get with Guy Mckenna. He did his job on the field, each week and imo never got the praise he deserved.

IMO the Eagles most valuable Player. The way he could read the play and set up play down the field was legendary. I havent seen anything like it from any other player. When he retired there was a huge hole in the Eagles defence.
His last game was the most emotional I have ever been at a Football game. We absolutely got flogged against Melbourne. But that goal he scored just brought a tear to the eye. Everyone stayed to the end to give him a senf off. The result didnt matter. We were all winners for being there on that day to celebrate a great Career.
Bluey McKenna to my mind is the best ever Eagle.
GO EAGLES!
His last game was awesome even though we got flogged. Particularly because of THAT play. The Cousins run down the wing...and finding McKenna with a pin point pass directly in front, about 40 out. The camera angle that catches McKenna give Cuz a wink and a nod of thanks almost ended rumors about who our next captain would be!
The term "great" is much abused.
But IMO, Bluey remains one of the great players of the modern game

Bluey and Probally Kemp are the only playes to ever play for the eagles I had any respect for.
Bluey in my opinion is the best player to play for your club, his bravery was unmatched and the way he lead down back was remearkable.
Give me bluey over Matera or cousins anyday.

Absolute Champion.
Rarely played a bad game, and always, always, always reliable.
That was my favourite thing about Bluey, him playing well and doing his job wasn't a possibility, it was a given.
We miss players like him now.
Again, Champion.

my fave player, and one of the best half backs the game ever produced, let alone of the modern era. the only eagle in serious contention for the team of the century.

You raise an interesting point there Zero - I tend to agree.
I wonder which other Eagles might possibly be contenders for a team of team of the century. I reckon McIntosh could have given Silvagni a shake at full back, Jako at CHB possibly and not too many after that. Maybe Matera on a wing but the competition in the midfield is always going to be much more ferocious.
