I'm listening now to garbage's album `BeautifulGarbage' and I can't recall when I've heard a more worthless piece of **** from a band I previously thought was pretty good.

I'm also the sucker that bought Tex Perkins' `Wild Horses' on the basis that the Cruel Sea were pretty good.

Anyone else got an album that totally turned you off the band?

Americana, not that I bought it.

The last Bosstones album kinda sucked.

Anything by You Am I or Smashing Pumpkins.

Are you on drugs?

You Am I are awesome, both on plastic and live!

Siamese Dream was one of the best albums of that era (admittedly SP got a bit posy towards the end), but that album is outstanding!

Not turned off as such but just always get bored of Regurgitator and Red Hot Chilli Pepper albums very quickly(have a couple of each). I suppose they are bands that I enjoy listening to on the radio but shouldn't buy.

Spiderbait are a band that I have gone off totally since buying an album ages ago as well.

I'm with you there regarding RHCP. IMO Blood Sugar Sex Magik was out and out class, One Hot Minute got a flogging, as I love Dave Navarro's work, but since then, they have become very pedestrian. Shame really...

Live - "V". The album before it ("The Distance To Here") was a bit of an aberration, but "V" just sucked beyond all belief.

With the exception of a rare few, just about any hip-hop album I've bought post 1996. And I've bought a lot.

Maybe you should have learnt your lesson after the first few perhaps???

Love the Pumpkins, but while I own the album and it's not that bad, Zwan has kind of made me wish Billy just quit. Loved you when you were a bitter and twisted man with hair, Billy.

Foo Fighters are getting worse as they go along, but they're still a good studio band who are awesome live.

However, the Dandy Warhol's latest release was torrid in comparison to 13 Tales... - Welcome to the Monkeyhouse is synth pop crap from a band who used to bring out good quirky rock music.

I don't see much to complain about, regarding Zwan. 'Mary Star of the Sea' is a pretty decent album, and it's quality hardly detracts from Billy Corgan song-writing or musicianship (or that of any of the other band members). It would have been interesting to have seen what developed of them, had they continued to make albums (although, that was always unlikely). Apparently Corgan is going to work on solo projects - although, I wouldn't be surprised if he ropes in Jimmy Chamberlin to help out on drums (and why wouldn't you?!).

On the other hand, Smashing Pumpkins last commercial release, 'Machina/The Machines of God' was an over-conceptualised, self-indulgent crock which did nothing to send the band out on a good note. The concept driving the album absolutely stank. Even more disappointing, was the fact that the album did have some good material on it, as did the unofficial "bootleg" follow-up album 'Machina/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music'. Had they taken all the good material off of both of these albums and compiled it onto one, for their last commerical release, and chucked out the ****ty concept for the album, the band's last album might have been something memorable. Overall, a very disappointing end to a band which strung a number of great records together previously.

I can't help but listen to 'Songs for the Deaf' and think that Billy Corgan could have come up with an album just as good conceptually and muscially (if not ten times better) to finish the Pumpkins off with.

The Spice Girls really let themselves down with the release of "Forever". Following up such an amazing debut (Spice) was always going to be hard, but they amazingly pulled it off with "Spice World".

But "Forever" just shattered what was a golden run of quality releases.

Ahem.

Welcome to the Monkeyhouse is not as strong an album as 13 Tales... , but that would be quite a task...that album still gets a real thrashing by me to this day. That said, there are some really good songs on WTTM . "The Last High" is awesome, and "Heavenly" is gorgeous Dandy Warhol excellence. "I am Sound", "Plan A" and "We Used to be Friends" are all ok. Still a worthwhile album to own...

Ok... how about these:
Garageland - "Scorpio Righting"
Ween - "White Pepper"
Faith No More - "King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime"
Weezer - "Green Album"
Beastie Boys - "Hello Nasty"
Greenday - "Insomniac"
Black Eyed Peas - "Elephunk"
Custard - "Loverama"
Grinspoon - "the New Detention"
Ministry - "Filth Pig"
Jebediah - "Jebediah"
Propagandhi - "Todays Emires, Tomorrows Ashes"
Ratcat :D - "Blind Love"
Sonic Youth - "Experimental, Jetset..."

A superb blend of several genres: heavy metal (Cuckoo for Caca, Ugly in the Morning), rock (Digging the Grave, Richochet) and softer stuff (Evidence, Take this Bottle) to the gospel-like ending of Just a Man... Ah, probably my favourite FNM album.

My nomination would be Patton's Themes for Adult Voice. Now there's a credibility killer. How does he sleep at night trying to pass that **** off as music?

Oh and Dave, Adult Themes for Voice is legendary. Are you the other person that got sucked into buying it?

I like to trick people into playing my copy of their own accord on the basis of Mike Patton's great voice, though this may explain why I need to buy a new stereo.

Also, Zwan = ****ful. I heard the released track on their website before the album came out and thought "Yeah, they could go somewhere with this." AND THEY DIDN'T. More of the ****ing same the whole way through. Ugh.

You mean, it was garbage? :D

Myself, I thought Alice Cooper's "Trash" was aptly named. 'twas sad to hear the world's premier theatrical shock-rocker descend to the level of bad 1980s metal. Didn't put me off his work though - I just stick to "Killer" and "Welcome To My Nightmare"

Pranzo Oltranzista is pretty worthless too.

That's exactly it. A total waste of an album from a guy with such a great voice.

Well, what were you expecting?

There's plenty of variety on the Zwan album . . . maybe you should put it on for a second listen. More importantly, the record is another example (albeit a different take) of Corgan's quality song-writing and musicianship (if you like Corgan's style, admittedly).

Although the record probably could have benefitted from having one or two tracks cut from it, I'd say that it's more interesting, and better quality than most of the other contemporary, mainstream rock releases of its type going around.

Zwan cd is a classic(not one bad song and the musician ship is outstanding compared to the dull lifeless cut and paste remix of old better song dribble that calls it self music today.
Love fool for a lifetime too -album of the year didn't get the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.
Angeldust is fnms masterpiece.

I was a huge fan of there first 2 albums, but they lost me after this one. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

Metallica fans of the 80s.. any who hadn't jumped off after "Metallica" had well and truly buggered off after "Load".

Def Leppard were a good band until "Slang".

Great thread.

Rolling Stones - Undercover ... the official beginning of the end.
Midnight Oil - Red Sails In The Sunset
Hoodoo Gurus - Kinky or Blow Your Cool, whichever was the earlier
You Am I - Hourly Daily
Red Hot Chili Peppers - the one after Blood Sugar Sex Magic

Im a big fan of the Dandy's. Seen em live three times and will be making doubly sure i see them at the BDO, Im just hoping they dont play anything from the Banana House. I cried when i heard the album. Apparently they got the bloke who produced several Duran Duran albums to produce theirs... Big mistake. Still love Zia.
At Livid several years back iwas up the front perving on her Bristol Cities, they are sublime

Even though it consisted of covers, Guns N Roses' The Spaghetti Incident? sounded the death knell for the greatest, most bloated rock combo of the late 80's - early 90's. Nothing could have topped Appetite For Destruction, but I thought the Use Your Illusion albums, though wildy pompous, were pretty good follow-ups to their previous masterpiece. The Spaghetti Incident?, however, well the less said the better.
