A question for those West coast supporters in Western Australia.

I have not seen him play could you guys give your thoughts as to 1) How do you rate him compared to previous young WA players and 2) Would he be as good as Spencer ?

He's unbeatable over 400 metres and has nice white teeth.

Played similar role/s to that of Brent Staker last year in the WAFL. Considering one was on an AFL list one wasn't I think the comparison in terms of "level" of performance is similar. I am not comparing them as players but they did play at a comparable level.

Regarding Spencer; Spencer played ruck in the under age comp and will need to transition to a KP. Whilst he wouldn't be the first bloke to do this the jury is still out somewhat. Both he and Johnson have mature builds for 18yo's and are good athletically but the difference with Johnson is he is a tested and tried performer as a KPP in a senior competition.

Matt Burgan doesn't know much about WA guys it seems. He is a freak. I would describe him as a 194cm version of Dion Woods with superior foot skills. There is a question mark over his dedication because he is a lousy trainer but I would be disappointed if we overlooked him at #26, especially for some developing 190cm player from Victoria.

Not picked up in the draft, sadly for him. I suppose he could be rookied.

Yep, disappointed he wasn't picked up. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I think that based on ppinions of this thread we should give him a go...I think that there are some good football brains here that rate him quiet well..

Yeah, good footy brains without a clue. My choices Burges, Johnson and Cosgriff never even got a look in. Well I guess I won't give up my day job just yet.

Rookie Draft
Burges
Johnson
Cosgriff
Nick Sas

Surely I'll get one right sooner or later.

Maybe I need a bigger list.

If he were better than Dion, he would have gone first round.

Dion is infinitely better, and will always be.

It's an insult to Dion comparing them.

LOL, turn it up Kenny. We can compare anyone we want to.

Are you saying that first round selections are better than others? Or maybe that only players that are better than Dion go in the first round?

Infinitely! mmmm big call. Is that an antonym or a synonym? [/B][/QUOTE]

Really! And you would know this how? You mean that you think it is an insult whereas Dion might just find it amusing. Back to the Freo board for you young Kenny.

Yes, you can compare anyone you want to but how can you say a kid (who didn't even get drafted when duds like Callaghan get re-drafted) is better than one of the best half backs in the competition? You can't.

It's like comparing Kane Munro to James Hird.

If you are comparing Michael Johnson to Kane Munro and Dion Woods to James Hird then you are clearly delusional.

I was obviously comparing the gap between the players.

Like I would compare Woods to Hird, or even Johnson to Munro. Hird is easily better than Woods and Munro is easily better than Johnson.

I was saying the difference between Woods and Johnson is similar to the difference between Hird and Munro.

Didn't Johnson do a pre season with the Eagles this year?

Two National Drafts one Rookie Draft a pre season with an AFL Club and still not chosen. Maybe therein lies the answer to the question.

I thought that he had done something with one of the AFL clubs.
I suppose the problem now is if he is really worth considering for the rookie list, if he was any good one of the clubs would have drafted him.

Is this another SMART tactic or does Johnson have a flaw in the attitude area. He seems to have the physical attributes required.

I think Johnson is a super star in the making and WCE would be crazy not to rookie list him. Please pick him and leave those no hopers Surjan and Duffield for Freo to Rookie List Tsk Tsk:)

No not really, although Wilson has played at the top level. I think you'll find that he may have received an offer to do a pre season interstate. He came very close to being drafted in the 50s, virtually a toss of the coin decision in the end.

rofl.... don't I look like a goose on this thread.

By the way, I had a good chat with Michael Johnson's dad at the start of the 2004 season and the FFC told Johnson he is talented but he has the biggest arse they've ever seen so if he can get in shape by 2005, they will keep him, else he will get delisted.

The kid got in shape and now is reaping the dividends.

Thought Johnson looked pretty good in his debut season in 2005 and was surprised he didn't play more than 11 games in that year. I remember thinking how WCE should have picked him up.

2006 was a definite breakout season for him as the third tall playing a role similar to J Cloke (2002) in some ways. Unlike Cloke however he also got plenty of possessions by reading the play really well and using his athleticism. The only negative was the finals game against the Demons where he was exposed a bit by a fast leading CHF in Brad Miller. I'd expect more coaches to try and expose him that way next year.

He has a huge upside as he has yet to play 50 games although i doubt he has the midfield credentials as some Dockers supporters seem to think

Ah.
Woods had massive potential.
The death of his father knocked ihm around..And he just couldnt in the end find the motivation.

I was watching Johnson in the WAFL and couldnt understand why he was being drafted. I think recruiters look too hard sometimes and overlook the obvious.

Very good rebounder of the footy out of the D50, courageous mark and good clean hands.

Not a bad player at all.

michael johnson is a great player - massive find for freo

a lot asked why eagles didnt pick him up, it was maybe due to the fact that we already had graham on the rookie list and i guess they are similar players

if we didnt have jaymie, i would be spewing about MJ...
