22 years old, small goal kicking foward, I would have prefered Luke Herrington or Ricky Dyson though.

Kicked 2 and 5 goals in Tassie's 2 VFL finals games this year. Consistantly kicked goals and was in the best during the year.

Saw him in the finals last year. Thought he looked good.

Your too kind scooter. Jordan Doering looked good as well.

Surely their were better options. It wasn't as if it was our last pick

I'm willing to give the kid a chance.

We have no choice! I'm not saying he won't be any good, it's just I don't see why we drafted him at 22.

After embarassing myself with the "Peter Street for pick 50" thread, I'm being kind to Cats.

What a complete waste of a high pick!
This guy is obviously the "Andrew Mackie" for this year.
We cant expect to ever move up the ladder with selections like this.

Small Difference. Mackie was rated a first round pick by most clubs. He might not have been well known to the general public but clubs like the WB and Melb where falling over themselves to get him. Was always going in the first round. Also he is only 18 so in a sense is equal with all other kids.

Cameron Thurley will be 22 this year and has played 3 unspectacular seasons of VFL. I'd hardly call him a kid. I really don't think other clubs where beating down the door for this forward pocket. Pick 22 was simply too high. Even if he turns out to be a gem I will still never forget that we passed over Moody for nothing. Could have had Tenace, Moody, Blake, Spencer, and taken Thurley with pick 54. Would have been a red letter draft for us. 4 kids who were all touted as top 20 picks plus a smokey

Steady on, he was brilliant in the VFL finals, tore David Sprigss a new A hole when they beat us. Is quick and has good skills. They clearly felt he was going to be taken between there two picks so they just took him. Wells never has any regard for the popular choice and is quite wilinging to back his judgement. A midfield of him Tenace, Byrnes and Wojcinski adds much needed pace

Well I don't think he was worth such a high pick but he is a very good player who as worked hard for his chance. Very good skills on both sides but his best attribute would be his courage...took two spectacular marks running back into packs and one of them won the game for Tassie. Have some faith in him he'll go well.

He is a complete and utter w**ker though.

You are mixing your Devils up I think. I'm pretty sure it was Brett Robinson who tagged Spriggs. Incidently, Robinson was completely overlooked yesterday and heads off to Carlton for pre season training.

I hope Thurley doesn't have access to the net ;)

That's harsh on both Thurley and Mackie. Mackie is exceptionally talented with a huge potential. He will be a star for us. Slagging Mackie as a player who won't be of use to Geelong as they move up the ladder is plain stupid. If you saw him play in the VFL this year, you would have some sort of idea as to what the kid can do.

My friend, I have seen Mackie play, and IMO he isnt the answer to our goal kicking problems.
In relation to Thurley, I simply suggest that he wasnt worth such a high pick (and neither was Mackie)
I am in no way critical of either player, just the recruiting staff at Geelong.
