Am I correct in my assumption that not a single Queenslander was selected in this draft?
Now for all those McGuerians and McMahonians instead of trying to get the Lions to pick crap talent, maybe they should have shown the Lions what they are missing out on and picked one or two themselves.

I lived up there until I was 12, never kicked a football or watched a game till I came to Victoria. While I was up there, I knew what Football was, I knew there was a team called the bears, but that was the extent of it (I left at the end of 1994)

Football up there is regarded with about the same amount of passion as Rugby League is followed down here. To give you an example, when the Melbourne Storm won the NRL premiership, very few victorians cared

I participated in this apathy, simply because I enjoyed football more. Even now, up in Queensland, there's not that many who care that Brisbane's won 3 straight. The marketing of the game up there is deplorable. THe TV coverage is horrendous (I think the only time I could watch an Essendon-Melbourne game while I was up there last year during winter was at 3am!!!)

Sounds like a great reason to put more money into developing grassroots football in QLD, don't you think? It'd be a start...

Furfaro should go in the rookie draft, I reckon.

It's no where near that bad. We get live games on a saturday at 2pm reguardless of who's playing and every Brisbane game shown live at 7:30 on a saturday night. And we get the 1:00 game shown live on a sunday reguardless of who's playing.

The friday night games and other non-lions games on a Saturday night are shown late, but its no where near as bad as you suggest.

And the coverage in the media has increased HUGELY over the last few years. 5 years ago, there wouldn't be a single column about any pre-season activities but now, everyday there is always something. It's going in the right direction.

yeah it certainly has gotten better & yeah the lions success has helped with the increased media coverage & despite what most victorians think (these are the same ppl think that u can like drive to Cairns in an hour or so from brisbane) its not totally blackout up here anymore....actually looking forward to reading what cantright has to say in the paper 2morro.. hopefully they would have a bit of info on the draft in there

I doubt there's to much actually. Half a page at the most and a list of all the draftees. Some thing called the Rugby Union world cup will dominate it tomorrow sadly.

Is Furfaro the guy who kicked about 7 goals in a match at the under 18's carny? I remember watching him, I was surprised he wasn't drafted..

maybe that was Jay Drummond.... he was the one with the bagful in the 2nd game & Billy kicked a bag in the 1st game if i remember correctly.. but jake is more of a defender... so i dont think he would have too many chances to get 7 goals in a game

Ah okay, I stand corrected.

Is that kid from PNG much of a chance to get rookie listed?

yeah no thats cool... just though i would let u know.. he did sooo well that day.. just turned it on & went nuts..

i dunno if u know much about him Kris but jake plays for mt gravatt & was captain of the Qld 18s this year.. won the Harrison medal for best player in 2nd division & made the all-australian team ... during the lead up to the draft The AFL site had the list things & it said

Strong, medium, defender, who is an excellent kick and has good hands in a marking contest. Plays aggressive football and has leadership qualities

hes 19 in february, 185cm & 87kg.. hes well built for someone of his age i reckon & he will do well coz he does well against the otehr state league players.. he played in mt gravatt's GF winning team last year & play out the end of the season with the vultures after returning from the carnival...

yeah i rekcon he does have a pretty good chance.... havent actually seen him myself but i guess with a good word put in from Mal's dad from up there coaching the PNG team that he is good would hold considerable weight with Lethal.... & the story written by cantwright says that he will be shown some leniency or something to that effect... so i reckon he has a pretty good chance.....will just have to wait & see how he goes up until christmas & then who else turns up to training on monday....
