Interesting to see all 1st-3rd year players trained with World 400m Hurdles Champion Jana Pittman at the famed Moorooduc Hills.

This small article appeared in today's edition of the Mx (a free paper distributed by the Herald Sun to Melburnians)

Cats look to peak early
Geelong is banking on an Olympic-type preparation to deliver success next year.

All first to third-year players joined 400m hurdles world champion Jana Pittman this morning in a gruelling hill-running session at Moorooduc on the Mornington Peninsula

Piitman's coach, Phil King, sent the players up two 340m hills in a searching run that he said even took the wind out of his champion.

" It's diabolical for blowing your body apart," King said

"Last time Jana did it, she threw up seven times. Even she finds it incredibly tough."

It's the same training Pittman did in the lead-up to her world championship win.

Debbie Flintoff-King also used the system to win Olynpic gold.

Most of the Cats were able to beat Pittman.

King said the power training would be crucial for the Cats going into next year.

"It's a key component of overall athletic training," King said

"It's hard, but not military-style. It's actually quite sensible."

Lets hope this training proves to be of some benefit, and I am sure it will be. Surely something must be learnt from training with a World Champion.

You sure it isn't so that we know how to hold our hand-bags just right?

Perhaps this kind of training will help us run out games much better, something which has let us down over the past couple of seasons. Either way, it's a good experience for our players and it's nice to see our club making the news during the off-season.
