I know it's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" type of question, but what is the word on Primus' fitness? Is he doing the full training program or is he likely to have more injury problems into next year?
Will the combination of the new ruck rules and his injuries stop him from ever being a dominant ruckman again?
I'm in a fantasy footy comp and am considering drafting him.

He's due back for round 1, yeah. I wouldn't expect him to be doing the ruck all game for most of the year though, with the quality our other rucks have reached in the past year.
The new ruck rules will be interesting. They'll maybe hinder him maybe for the first couple of weeks (if they haven't been drawn back), but from week 8 or so onward the umpires will have completely forgotten about them again.
If he's not rucking most of the game though, chances are he'll be our full forward as opposed to benched, so could be worth drafting on that basis.

totally agree..many people think that cos of the new rules, big matty will no longer be of much use to the team apart from a leader, but watch out for him in the forward pocket when hes losing the ruck battles...he has very strong hands, and his kicking is improving.
The taking the ball from the ruck has been scrapped for next season hasnt it?
What a stupid ****ing rule that was.
yeah, i'm pretty sure its been scrapped for the last half of this year...so they shouldnt bring it back
yes i agree, it was a stupid rule...and presumably only brought in cos matty and the other ruckmen who used there strength were so dominant and people werent happy bout it...why else would they mess around with a rule like that? i dont think its for fairer oppurtunity to tall leaping ruckmen.

Amusingly it was `modern ruckman' Darcy that was screwed most by that rule because his ruckwork isn't all that good so he snatches it.
That was an example of complete overkill. A problem had been detected, players in general play who held onto the ball when grabbed were pinged for holding the ball but ruckmen weren't. So instead of doing the sensible thing, policing the holding the ball rule at ball-ups, they made a whole new rule which meant the ruckmen had no time to grab the ball and handball it off. Worse, the opposition players in the centre square were scragging the ruckmen. When are Jeff Gieschen and his cohorts going to learn that the golden rule in umpiring is KISS, keep it simple, stupid.

In this morning's Realfooty interview with Williams by Caroline Wilson, Mark Williams is quoted as saying something like "Primus wasn't fit for the PF, and he probably isn't fit now."
