Hey Port fans...
just looking at your list and the deletions and additions to your list over the off season so far and i'm a little confused...
for a team like port that seems to be in a position to win a flag in the next 2 seasons, you've not only gotten rid of Paxman (who i thought was okay) and Cocky Collins (who i used to love watching but didnt have the best of seasons this year) plus you traded Guerra and Morgan (both of whom wanted more oppourtinies) and you've lost Stevens as well, and the only real immediate gain you've made to your list is Robert Forster-Knight. My question is, looking at what you've lost, was delisting Paxman and Cocky a bad move considering all else that you lost?
(it shows that i didnt watch too many Port games this year)
They still have a great list but yeah..

Simply put, we're relying on our depth this year.

Paxman is definitely going to be the trickiest of those you named to replace. The rest we should be able to cover.

Yes this year will be interesting to see how Port copes, we've definitely lost more than we gained.

I think Paxman is the biggest loss, which appears to be why we recruited Forster-Knight. Unfortunately I don't think Port had a choice in losing Guerra, and same thing with Morgan.

Cocky I'm not sure, I think his best is behind him now, and Port have plenty of players like him. Still love the guy though.

Stevens is obviously a loss (not going to go into that) but Port have made the right decision there. Generally when Nick missed games this year we covered him fine though, so we won't miss him as much as we'd miss a Francou or James.

In summary, the problem area I think will be defence, so it will be interesting to see how Forster-Knight goes there - plus good old Poults will have a blinder of a season of course :D

Injury free year we haven't lost much.

If we have another one like last year we are probably in trouble.

Depth is good for the minor round. In finals your 25th-30th players arent going to win many games.

Port has a group of fantastic kids, it is now time to play them, letting them prove they can be fantastic footballers.

The following lads must get their opportunity this coming season

Salopek
Ebert
Cassisi
Hall
Gilham
Thurstans
White
Champion
Ackland

Guys like the following must become good senior players
Poulton
Kane Cornes
Shaun Burgoyne
Dew

Then add the 4 (so far) new lads

Chaplin
Symes
Pettigrew
Peel

Speculate on posible rookie list kids, we have 1 (again so far) (Patfull) being added, it all looks like a list that can perform for the now, plus grow for the future

Paxman was close to retirement and one of the last one position players. Although I think he had 1 or maybe even 2 seasons in him obviously Port didn't. Guerra and Morgan needed more oportunities, they could see they wouldn't come at Port with the list they had to compete with. Koula never impressed consistently enough in the SANFL. Cocky was too prone to inconsistent years, and could go missing for long periods of time.

I think the initial sackings were a bit of a knee-jerk to placate Alan Scott and some of the South Australian public, but they were pretty much spot-on. The only real minusses I can see are that Paxman has gone, taking a huge amount of experience from our defence, and Cocky, who for all his inconsistencies could not be left free by a defender and could do the unexpected. On many an occasion a ball would be lofted high into the forwards and we would expect the opposition tall defender to clear it and Cocky would come in with his octopus arms and keep it forward for he or another player to score.
