View Full Version : ING Cup: Vics vs. Mafia

Not a bad total from the Vics, 7/235 after 50 overs.

Was disappointed in Rummans selection, but he did make 50 in reasonable time.

Great innings from the skipper White too, turned a probable score of 200 into 235.

Also great to see Brett Lee get carted at times, and go wicketless.

NSW 2-62 after 16 overs.

And yes, i am jealous, jealous that NSW can get uber hacks like Bracken (he's the new Wayne Holdsworth) selected ahead of more deserving guys like Brad Williams.

Only 3 more tests before that all changes though.

Clarke just got out, leaving The Mafia at 3-133 needing 6 an over from here on in.

Bevan is batting typically slow (36 from 73), but i have no doubt he'll be there at the end, one way or the other.

Just hoping Junior Waugh crumbles under the pressure again, if that happens, we will have a chance.

How's Inness bowling? Need to keep putting on the pressure on the players ahead of him.

Not great figures for either bowler, especially Lee who is alledgedly world class.

No such luck, today we're getting the quality Junior.

NSW should win comfortably.

NSW need 48 from 42

You, i guess it's not fair to expect anything overly special first up from such a long spell.

7 Dec 2003, 15:26
Got rid of Mark Waugh, but NSW still in control.

Need 47 from 40, as long as Bevan is there, they should be safe.

7 Dec 2003, 15:34
Freak Harvey is bowling brilliantly, however we're being let down by Mick Lewis, who is going for plenty.

NSW need 26 from 26.

Fall Out Boy
7 Dec 2003, 15:39
Harvey's 3 overs this spell have gone for only 12 runs, amazing effort given Bevan is at the crease.

NSW need 22 from the last 3 overs, hopefully Mick Lewis can actually bowl tightly.

Inness had 10 taken off his last over. NSW need 12 off 12.

Harvs will need to pull out a miracle in his last over to save this.

Yep, another amazing over from Freak.

His last spell ended with 4 overs, 1-16. Special.

Now just hope Matty Inness can keep things tight in this last over, although NSW should win. If they lose, they have choked big time.

Haddin gone now, excellent fightback from the Vics.

Still, 6 from 4 should be easy enough to get.

Come on Vics.

6 runs from 4 balls is very gettable. If they don't get them, it would be one almighty choke.

4 from 2 balls now.

We probably can't win, unless we get a wicket.

7 Dec 2003, 15:57
They need 2 off the last ball, with the keeper standing back

2 from the last ball needed, any contact on the ball and NSW win.

Still, a tie from the position we were in 10 overs ago is a great result.

That's a bad choke from NSW. Should have won comfortably but fell in for a tie.

Slax
7 Dec 2003, 16:25
Choke! The Vics should only of been bowling 49 overs because NSW didn't start the 50th over until after 1:30. But then again what's new we all know that the Cricket Australia love anything to do with NSW.

Victoria did well there in the end to salvage a draw. Would have been quite a good match to watch in the latter overs.

These points will be defining in the context of the season.

All this thread is showing is Victorians are content tieing with an undermanned NSW side that is injury depleted and has a percentage of it's side out representing Australia.
Face it Victoria, your crap!

Obviously still perturbed by the mere mention of the term 'choke'.

Not so much perturbed when I look at Geelong's GF performances over the last 15 years.
That is the epitomy of choke.

No worries.

Just as an aside, i wholly respect NSW cricket, they are the benchmark, just don't like the perceived bias from selectors.

Not a diss towards NSW cricket, simply the selectors.

He didn't want to let the facts get in the way of a pissweak troll, sounded better to portray NSW as being undermanned.

We could talk about Port Adelaide's GF losses, but they choke before they can get to a GF.

:o

It was a good effort by the Vic's,considering there was still a lot of players in the NSW side that have played for Aus.

Can I just say that after being out all day and not knowing a thing about the result, how enjoyable its been to read through the 30 or 40 posts on the game.

I mean it. It was genuinely exciting to go through one post at a time - almost ball by ball in the last couple of overs - and have each nut analysed in the inimitable BigFooty style.

The fact it turned out to be a tie was just an added extra.

Good work guys, without even probably realising it ....

and well done to the ABC for crossing between the last 2 overs of the cricket at the MCG and the golf. The test match was boring,so they crossed to the venue's where it was "all happening".

Ch9 never bothered giving any updates of a score in the ING cup.

I gave up on the ABC. Thier updates of the cricket were pathetic. They spent 5 minutes talking about the hockey- most of it was waffle while the Test was still on. Then they decided that the golf was more important with the reporter repeating the scores so many times. He might as well have gone through each player on the final day. The last over was good not the ABC's coverage was generally poor. A simple score update is all we need.

As for the match, the Mafia were lucky to escape. Victoria deserved to win and should have won. Those points could have cost them a place in the final.

Would have been better than 3AW's little effort. They went to someone called "Matt Granland"(?)-unfortunately Bondy was at the golf- to describe the last few balls. When he got to the last ball he got the result wrong (thought the Vics had won)and didn't realise there'd been a runout! It was up to Anthony Hudson in the studio to say "it's a tie it must be a tie". Tres ordinairre.

That highlights why commercial radio now no longer does cricket...the standard is so poor.
