There has been a lot of talk about the strengh of the current Australian Bowling attack which is suprising due to our supposed depth in Australian cricket. Although granted this is mainly in the batting stocks.
I think some of the problems is with the Selectors getting in a mind set over a particular bowler, even if they have not performed at state level and then just sticking with them regardless of performance. I think there needs to me more merit involved with selection.
I'd be interested to what bowlers people think should be in the test team and also who would be in the 2nd eleven (and 3rd if anyone could be bothered.
Test
J Gillespie: Picks himself, Is now the best pace bowler in Aus
B Williams: Has pace and lots of aggression
S Macgill: 2nd best leggy in the world
M Inness: Best left arm pace bowlers in Aus
2nd
C. White: Not ready for international cricket, but the most promising of the young spinners
B. Lee: Would swap with Williams when fit. Needs more variation in his bowling or his career will filter out quickly one his pace drops
A. Noftke: Line & Length
N. Bracken: Left armer, can swing the bowl, but can lack penetration once the shine has left the ball
3rd
M. Lewis: Has pace and brings some "mongrel" to the attack
M. Nicholson: I can't stand him, he is erractic, but he is tall and can generate bounce and movement from the seam.
N. Hauritz: Closely followed by Casson, doesn't spin the ball but good change of pace and length.
P. Rofe: To play the McGrath line and lengh type role. Doesn't really have the figures yet but it looks like he has the ability
