Interesting to see that they christened the new Chappell stand at lunchtime, next to the V. Richardson gates, which is a nice touch.

What with Steve (finally) going, it might be interesting to compare the brothers (we'll leave out Trevor and Dean).

Suffice to say that 3 of the 4 of them would be in the top twenty or so Aus cricketers of all time (not sure if Mark would make it).

I guess the Chappells would come out slightly ahead of the Waughs, as both got the top job.

If you take Ian as the Mark and Greg as the Steve, the Chappells also win on batting averages.

Bowling is very similar (bearing in mind that Greg bowled for his last 5 years or so with back probs a la Steve).

Close in fielding would be too hard to call - both Ian and Steve very reliable, whilst Greg and Mark were sublime slips fielders - perhaps Mark just shading Greg in this area?

Thoughts, rants and opinions sought.....

Good to see a stand named after Clem Hill as well.

A very much underrated player amongst Australia's all-time cricketers. From the same era as Victor Trumper and his figures stack up pretty well against Trumper's. I can't believe he's not in the hall of fame.

In my view the Chappells have the edge in the batting stakes, particularly when you bear in mind their relative roles in the order as a number 3 and 4 batsman, next to the Waughs 4 and 5.

The Waughs have the edge in bowling, but not by all that much.

Difficult to separate from a fielding point of view.

Both Chappells were captains, Ian one of the greats, while Greg's reign is probably a little underrated (he had WSC right in the middle, and then had to deal with generational change).

Steve is up there with Ian, while Mark has never captianed his country.

So all up - the Chappells for me.

Mind you, I'd be happy having all four in my team.
