and hopefully we can get Suzi Olsen from Ballarat to write it in :D
I'm thinking of asking, "How many players have the unique distinction of having a bowling average lower than their batting average? (minimum 100 wickets, 2000 runs).
made the threshold a bit higher so its easier to look up.

Actually its a dud question. I just realised heaps of people would. I wonder how many have the batting average over 30 and bowling average under 30 for the same minumum requirements.
There's a stack of them. Based on 1000 runs @ 100 wickets here's a start:
Bailey (Eng) - 2,290 runs @ 29.74. 132 wkts @ 29.21
Botham (Eng) - 5,200 runs @ 33.54. 383 wkts @ 28.40
C Cairns (NZ) - 2,853 runs @ 32.79. 197 wkts @ 28.80
Davidson (Aus) - 1,328 runs @ 24.59. 186 wkts @ 20.83
Goddard (RSA) - 2,516 runs @ 34.46. 123 wkts @ 26.22
Hadlee (NZ) - 3,124 runs @ 27.16. 431 wkts @ 22.29
Don't have enough time to give you the full list, but this link should give them all:

Ian Botham - Batting average of 33.54, Bowling 28.40
he's the only one above 5000 runs, 200 wickets with this feat.

only 3 Aussies:
Keith Miller
Monty Noble
Alan Davidson
and only 2 current players:
Jaques Kallis
Shaun Pollock
I believe Kallis is the only player of all time with 2000 runs @ >40 and a 100 wickets @ <30 (they're the cut-offs I would consider reasonable).

Which player's Test century was made with the most boundaries ??
Which fieldsman (not wicketkeeper) has taken the most catches in a Test innings and how many was it ??
What is the longest time taken to score a Test century ??
Apart from Kepler Wessels, who has played Test cricket for more than one nation ?? (is there anyone else ??)

i think we had a miscellaneous cricket stats thread a while ago that was a ripper. but here's a question:
One of history's greatest batsmen, West Indian George Headley, only played 22 tests yet compiled 10 centuries and 2190 runs at an average of over 60. While he played domestically for Jamaica and was a tremendous ambassador for the game and the region, where was he actually born?
Or
Mohinder Amarnath of India didn't play a test between November 7, 1979 and December 10, 1982, yet returned with an unbeaten 109 away to Pakistan. Apart from the fact that he was retired hurt for more than a day in the first innings, what was remarkable about his efforts in the second innings of the fifth and final test against the West Indies in Antigua in May 1983?
Or
Jack Hobbs and Herbert Sutcliffe are considered to be two of the best, if not the best, opening batsmen in Test cricket history, finishing with batting averages of 57 and 61 respectively, and 15 century opening partnerships and an average of 88 in their 38 innings together. When Australia toured England in 1930, what interesting piece of trivia was created when these two players, as expected, were selected for the first test at Trent Bridge?

Apart from Kepler Wessels, who has played Test cricket for more than one nation ?? (is there anyone else ??) There have been a good dozen, give or take, players to play test cricket for two countries.
Billy Murdoch, JJ Ferris, Albert Trott, Billy Midwinter and Sam Woods all played for Australia and England, late nineteenth/early twentieth century.
That spinner Traicos, forget his first name, played in South Africa's last test before isolation and then in Zimbabwe's first ever test.
I know there's one cricketer who played for New Zealand and the Windies. And one or two who played for India and Pakistan.

My best guesses / research:
1. Andrew Flintoff. 19 fours, two sixes.
2. Five players have taken five catches in an innings, most recently Steven Fleming.
3. Mudassar Nazar. 557 minutes.
4. 14 players (http://www-aus.cricket.org/db/STATS/TESTS/INDIVIDUAL/PLAYED_FOR_TWO_COUNTRIES.html) - interestingly John Traicos, played his last test for South Africa in 1970, and 22 years (!) later, played test cricket for Zimbabwe.

Has there ever been a father & son who have played in a Test match together ??
Has an Australian Test player ever been dropped from the national team, and first class team simultaneously?
Disregarding retirement, there must have been someone dropped from the Aussie team who never gota first class game again...

lotta questions. who's going to answer them and win the car?

Colin Miller would have gone very close.
I don't think a father and son have ever played together.
Miller, Muller, Robertson would have all struggled with state selection shortly after their Test career was over. Even Slater has been in and out of the NSW side a bit.

Has anyone made a score higher than Pontings 242 in the 1st innings and followed it up with a duck in the 2nd. Nothing recent springs to mind.

Or... when was the last time all the top 4 batsmen all made hundreds? i think it happened in England once... whether it was also when Tubby and Marsh batted all day i dont know. i think it was a tiny bit more recent than that though
I remeber going through cricinfo once and looking at a pakistani scorecard only to notice Inzamam-ul-Haq retired out for 200. Did someone place a bet that game or what?

Not quite answering the question, because he wasn't actually dropped from the Australian team; but a week after Peter Taylor top-scored for Australia in a Test against NZ in 1989/90 he was 12th man for NSW.

The time you may be thinking of was when Mark Waugh scored 99 in the 1993 Ashes Tour. Slater, Taylor and Boon got hundreds.
Apparently some guy had $1,000 on the top four to score centuries at $1000-1..

Good man. yeah it was 85/86 good pick up.
I've seen worse figures, but I haven't seen a bloke spray a ball around as much as him. Maybe with the exception of Chris Matthews against the West Indies in the late eighties at the Gabba.

I was going to point out Gavin Hamilton played for England subsequent to playing for Scotland in the World Cup, but of course he only played Test cricket for England.
Some other 'candidates' would be Queensland's Peter Cantrell who played for Holland and John Davison for Canada in World Cups but neither have come close to Australian selection.
Graeme Hick was in Zimbabwe's 1983 World Cup squad.
I'm pretty sure that Colin "Funky" Miller played for both the Netherlands and the Aussies.

Funky did play for the Dutchies. Check this link out for confirmation.

No he didn't. ;)
But games against the 2nd tier ICC member countries don't officially count as an 'ODI'.
If I could be bothered digging deeper he played for the Dutch against the likes of Canada, Scotland, Ireland etc trying to qualify for (from memory) the world Cup in India/Sri Lanka in the early 90's.
I think he may have played for the dutchies at a tour game level. If it had of been for a world cup qualifier it would be listed under ICC Trophy stats.
Dravid played for Scotland in the county oneday tournament in the season just gone, while steve waugh has represented either scotland or ireland in some sort of nothing representitive match that meant nothing but got list A approval.

Funky Miller's games for the Netherlands don't have ODI status.
Graham Hick was in the Zimbabwe squad for the 1983 World Cup but didn't play in any of the games. I looked him up before making my comment about Kepler Wessels, he never played a ODI for Zimbabwe.

George Headley is Dean Headley's grandfather. Ron Headley, who played for the Windies, is George's son and Dean's father.
