The Port Adelaide Football Club held its Annual General Meeting on Monday night with more than 300 members turning out to hear about the season just gone, and the season ahead.

In what was a very positive meeting, Port Adelaide Football Club President and Chairman of the Board, Greg Boulton, reported on the club’s financial results to the members, confirming the club had had a very good year off-field that resulted in a $331,288 profit (before SANFL Sub-Licence Distribution) in 2003.

Power chief executive Brian Cunningham informed the members of exciting marketing initiatives the club was implementing in the coming year including discussing the new ‘clash’ guernsey the club is set to launch in February.

Meanwhile, coach Mark Williams spoke on the coming season. The five new additions to the club – including Troy Chaplin, Robert Forster-Knight, Luke Peel, Michael Pettigrew and Brad Symes – were also introduced to the members.

Finally, it was announced that incumbent Mark Wightman had been re-elected to the Port Adelaide Football Club Board. There were 2087 formal votes recorded, with Wightman (1064 votes in total) 169 votes ahead of former Port Magpie president Brett Duncanson (895). Local businessman Phillip Michael (125) was the other nominee.

Boulton took the opportunity to congratulate Wightman.

“We had a very encouraging meeting,” said Boulton. “Overwhelmingly our members were very positive about the steps we have taken to ensure 2004 is a good year for the Port Adelaide Football Club both on and off the field.

“Congratulations to Mark Wightman for being re-elected to the Board. His skills and expertise in marketing, sales and advertising will continue to assist us in our objective to increase our market share in South Australia.”

The South Australian National Football League Commission, who will meet tomorrow morning, must approve the appointment of Wightman. The SANFL Commission will also ratify the nomination to the one vacant Commission-elected position on the Port Adelaide Football Club Board. Incumbent Director Philip Arnfield, who has served on the Board for the last three years, is seeking re-election.
