View Full Version : Paul Koulouriotis
Was the Cats selection in the PSD.
If he turns out to be the player Harley is, it's a big welcome to Catland.

Geelong has selected Paul Koulouriotis from Port Adelaide with the fifth pick in the AFL pre-season draft on Tuesday.
Koulouriotis has good pace and was the Power’s number one selection in the 1998 national draft.
Injuries limited him to just three senior games in his time with Port Adelaide, but the former Calder Cannons star and Vic Metro under 18 representative remains a talented player with potential to make an impact at senior level.
Can any Power fans tell us anything more about the player and what he can bring to Geelong?
Is his name pronounced like a part of the female anatomy? (Apologies to Seinfeld)

Not unless the pronunciation has changed since I last looked in the dictionary. The closest Englishised pronunciation is (don't forget to say this fast) Koo-law-right-iss.
you_idiot: Paul could probably be classified as primarily a wingman who plays equally as well in the centre, and is also highly effective as a forward. He's gifted with an amazing amount of pace and stamina, and can 99% of the time find his target. He's not so great at kicking goals as kicking to forwards, with a g:b ratio of just under 50%. (He's excellent at hitting posts though ;) ) Highly polished skills finish off the flattering rundown of talents etc
He spent 2002/2003 with West Adelaide in the SANFL, consistently making the best players and earned 7 Magarey Medal votes in '03 while polling a close 5th in the WAFC Best and Fairest.
Having not seen much of Geelong as I live in Adelaide, I can only say that he'll add speed and unpredictability to the midfield, improving the flow of play to the forwards.

After reading comments that Port Adelaide supporters have made about Paul Kouloriotis all I can say is good luck to Geelong.

I see we didn't end up getting Nathan Ablett. Why won't he play with us??? It must hurt Gary to see his son shun the mighty cats.
C'MON THE MIGHTY CATS GET IT ON!

Koula is a freakin dud.
I'd rather redraft Marcus Baldwin than get him.

So he's much like Jason Cloke,Richie Cole,Leon Davis,Ben Kinnear,Mark Richardson,Jarrod Molloy,Shane Woewoeful,Steve McKee........etc.
im a port supporter and would like to say that every thing ive seen koula girl ever write has seemed a bit biased.... so dont get too excited.
no offense koula girl but i dont think much of the actual koula, played ok for westies but didnt really star... and thats not a good sign.
Welcome aboard, mate.
Hope to see you carving it up in the blue and white hoops in 04.

Koulouritis can kick!! David Clarke is the second worse player ever in the AFL. He just got outpointed in the crapest of all time stakes by former crow and blue David Gallagher.
Watched Koulouritis a lot for West Adelaide this year and he was very unluckly not to be playing for Port. He should be a regular for the cats this year.

Heh, you are a tossa aren't you.
You can draft as many players that have played 3 AFL games in 4 years as you want.
I would much prefer to get Brownlow Medallists and players of that calibre.
One thing with all of those players is that bar Richo, they all played in at least one grand final.
How many Geelong players have - and will - achieve that by the end of their careers that are currently on your list??? Riccardi? Anyone else?
You big hero.

I think even Cameron Mooney would admit that he only got into the Kangaroos' Grand Final side because Jason McCartney was suspended.
Other current Geelong players to have played in a Grand Final... off the top of my head, only Riccardi, Graham, and Sanderson.
Wow,it didn't take much to reel Hoggy in. :D

Yep, and they've all got as many premiership medallions as any Geelong player.
Go back to Colliwobbles land mate.

I definately think Koula will play senior games for us next season. I mean Port have been clearly the strongest H&A side for the past 2-3 years so it's been a hard side to get into. He was a high draft pick so he obviously has talent just been held back by injury. He got himself right this year and had a terrific SANFL season. He is also still young enough to play 100+ games for us if he gets it together
What position do you see him filling? Who is his competition?
For me I think it's probably on a wing competing with the likes of Monica, Spriggsy and Rahilly. Would be terrific if we could mould him into an attacking HBF. We already have a lot but they don't really have speed or provide rebounding options. Sando is getting on and it would be nice to see Enright play up the ground a bit more.

Good luck to Koula.
It just didn't work out for him at Port, but there is no-one to blame. Not the coach, nor himself. It was just one of those things.
As he is still largely untried and young, he is worth a punt. It may or may not pay off, but well worth it. Good luck.
Koulagirl............. you can keep your name, but get back home at once. :p ;)

Forgot about Cameron Mooney.
Dunno where you think Sanderson played in a Grand Final though.
He got replaced by Grant Tanner for the 95 GF.

Yeah you say that now once it could actually bring you into a discussion.
More than likely you ran out of ideas so you thought it could all be solved with a ":D" and you would look like a hero.

I did say other Geelong players because Cameron Mooney had already been mentioned. I wasn't sure about Sanderson though... I remember he played in the Bulldogs Final when we kicked 10 goals in the first quarter, but for obvious reasons, I don't remember too much about the Grand Final against Carlton that year and dont want to.

Nah, I just decided to visit the Geelong board for the first time. It's, er... "famous".

WOW! They played in a grand final. Too bad they lost it.
Who gives a sh.t if they have played in a GF, it is winning it that counts and that is something that none of the Collingwood list will ever achieve and probably most of the Geelong list too, while Thompson is still coach.
