Who represented Fitzroy in the 100 metres "Iron Man Piggyback" event at the 1977 Truth Footy Olympics?

It was worth the wait, wasn't it?

You'll probably need a clue. If you don't want to see the clue, look away now.

The two players were both nominated for Fitzroy's Team of the Century.

I'll take a stab at Ron Alexander and Garry Wilson.

Wish there was some entrepreneur out there that would resurrect the footy Olympics!

Garry Wilson was the jockey, but Big Ron wasn't carrying him.

Any more guesses?

By a process of elimination, it can only be one of two remaining players. I think that, since Irwin was only just over his knee operation, it would have to be Harvey Merrigan.

Not Irwin
Not Merrigan

Number 8, shut the gate, it's Chrissy Smith, whose daughter has recently been seen in the company of Cooky, the full-back for the Fitzroy Reds.

Well done Olmy.

Hah! Yes, I knew I got it right!!! You'll have to tell us all again about the legend of that "shut the gate" business, there, Fat Pizza!!!

It's a bingo call, isn't it?

Back in 1979, I asked Chris Smith to autograph a poster, with his photo on it. The guy next to him said "That's not Chris Smith", so Chris said "Yes it is. Number 8, shut the gate, it's Chrissy Smith!".
