Totally agree, very classy and well put together. Well done Channel 9 and Eddie McGuire.

Very good tribute.

"Have your balls dropped yet?"
"At least I play for the country I was born in."

Classic.

Enjoyable and not over sentimental. Great job.
Only thing missing was some comments from Boof - but under the circumstances he might not have been up to it.

It was fantastic to see the 34 ball hundred! Had never seen extended footage of that before.

Yeah, that was great to see.

Mind you, that LBW shout a couple of balls before Hookes reached his century looked plumb!

It was the 33rd ball from memory (I couldn't help counting to see if the 34 ball hundred was correct!!), while he was on 99.

I agree about the LBW - looked closer than close (maybe pitched outside leg?) - it could well have been the fastest 99 in Australian first-class history, not the fastest 100!

Yes, looked rather plumb to me too!

Anyone else think that the bowling served up during the "magical" Shield ton looked like crap? What side was bowling this rubbish to him?

Perhaps it was Eddie presenting it, but it didn't do for me. Sorry.

Doesn't matter how crap the bowling is you've still gotta time the shots to get the maximum effect. The noise coming off the bat in that innings was like a gunshot as Hookesy was hitting it that cleanly, the effortless nature of it was as well impressed me greatly. First time I'd seen all of it and it was great to see. Nine did a good job with it, fair play to 'em.

Exactly, he must've had a good bat on his hand, it sounded like bone crunching when he hits the ball, I looked at all those red marks on the bat when he raised his bat for his 100.

That's a little unfair. It is not as if it was one of those occurrences in English cricket where bowling sides put on crappy bowlers, dishing up full-tosses and long-hops, to facilitate a declaration (with batsmen scoring at a ridiculously fast rate).

SA only batted for 24 overs - chasing 270 odd to win. There were three Victorian bowlers used - all regular bowlers - Shaun Graf (who played ODI's for Aust), Rod McCurdy (who had a pretty fair f-c career for three states) and Peter King (who didn't have much of a f-c career, but had taken 5 wickets in the first innings of this match).

Perhaps they didn't bowl well because Hookesy didn't let them!!!

Hats off to Hookes with his Shield innings - I just found the Channel 9 special a bit wet.

Guess who is going to be the "MC" of Hookes funeral?

Despite Eddie's head on there, it was a pretty good special.

Seeing that century again brought back some memories. I can't beleive it was 22 years ago :(

Yep, it's must've been a bit strange and unsettling for them when Hookes was surprisingly promoted himself to open, and then before they came to grips with it, Hookes was on a 100, they didn't know what hit them

It wasn't too bad but I think they should've waited till next week. It all seemed rushed, there's a lot more they could've put into it. Tuesday morning before the funeral would've been more appropriate IMO. (Funeral will be broadcast on 9 live everywhere btw) May have given them a chance to speak to a few more people. It was mainly Channel 9 employees, would've liked a few more ex-teammates, a few of his players and more in depth with people like KG who had a lot more to do with him than playing against him when he was 15.

Well said. I enjoyed it...........yes Eddie should not have been the host but we should worry about other things in life.

Unfortunatley, by the time the cricket was over, with no thanks to how slow the Indians bowled, it was just too late, and I was too tired to watch the Hookesy tribute.
It did start at around 11.20 after all!!

Hopefully it is replayed sometime in the future.

I think it will be replayed for certain, possibly at the Border Medal night.

Totally agree, while I enjoyed the show it was a bit one dimensional. Although cricket was his great love, I'm sure there was so much more to Hookesy.

Eddie did a good job.

Why can't people put their petty little biasas aside at a time like this. sheesh.

There is a lot more they could've put into it but there's already a bit of a backlash about the level of hoopla surrounding Hookes in the last week. I thought it was about the right level and the viewing time also not innappropriate.
Those who really want to see it would stay up and watch.

I think televising the funeral is a bit over the top though (in SA I could understand it but elsewhere......), I can barely accept McChins doing the tribute but if he is doing the funeral, well that's just rediculous isn't it. Whatever insignificant link he might have with Hookes it doesn't justify him to have any signficant involvement in the funeral at all.

I can't believe they showed the hundred.

By an unbelievable conincidence I was there that day. I can't remember why I was off school but I think my Mum was in hospital at one of the Nth Adelaide hospitals and after visiting her I was pestering my Dad to go and see the cricket. I remember the guy on the southern gate letting us in for free coz we got there at about the tea break just as the Sth Aussies were coming in for their 2nd innings. I remember they had to change the ball (it was only about 10 overs old) coz it was getting such a hammering.

i don't think Eddie has anything to do with the actual funeral apart from hosting it for channel 9.

I think you might find G.Healy will be MC if you can put it that way at the funeral

Going by Boof's media conference today he is clearly still cut by the incident. He was wearing sunglasses so we couldn't see his tears. I hope it doesn't affect his comeback mentally.

BTW, also think that Ch9 tribute was well done.

The song is by a group called Train, and the song is "When I Look to the Sky". The acoustic version is doing the rounds on radio at the moment. The version that was played (the best version) is on the album "My Private Nation". It is a beautiful song and the images went very well.
