Jo is playing his last game for WA against NSW today at the WACA against both Waugh boys who were both in the NSW team when he played his frist game

He has been a great servant of Australian cricket and taken a hell of a lot of wickets. A guy who got the most out of his talent.

Lets hope he can finish with a few wickets to beef up his total which is already the second highest of all time for first class wickets by an Australian.

When its all said and done, that's a first class record to be proud of.

Seemed to struggle at test level. The funny thing is though his FC record is streets ahead of several current blokes on the fringe of the test team - Williams and Bracken.

Anyway - well done Big Jo Angel. As others have noted he was a real workhorse and a great servant of West Australian cricket.

Hope he takes a bagful, one of the nicest Blokes to have played the game in my opinion. Well done Jo.

Seems a strange decision to retire half way through a season. What was the reason for this? Anyway good luck to him excellent First Class bowler.

Give some opportunities for some young quicks to get a game

Probably means Paul Wilson will get picked!!;)

He has been a great player for WA and I hope he does well in this match.

The statement about the second highest number of f-c wickets by an Australian isn't right though.

Didn't he announce his retirement before the season started?

Good move though, WA need to be playing as many kids as possible given how hopeless their season has been.

Jo Angel has been a good bowler, but he has no place in the current WA team.

Excellent first class cricketer, but should never have played test cricket. A WA legend, farewell Big Jo!

Yes, but he announced yesterday that the game vs NSW would be his final game for WA.

Terrific bloke. Big Joey Angel - given great service to West Australian cricket. Always willing to sign autographs on the fence and talk to the kids at cricket coaching clinics.

Always thought he was very stiff to not play more tests for Australia.

Sorry, its second most shield/pura wickets ever behind Clarrie Grimmett who has over 500.

Grimmet has great test figures as well. What a bowler he must have been.

One of the funniest things I've ever seen at the WACA concerning Big Jo (apart from last week when he chased a ball to the boundary, stepped on it just before the rope to save the 4, but by the time he returned it to the keeper, the batsmen had run 5!)was one day, every time he walked back to his mark, a group of guys started yelling out "Beep, Beep, Beep"... ie like a truck reversing!
He gave them a wave and I think he took a wicket soon after.

If he bowls about 40 overs in this match he'll overtake Carl Rackermann as the most balls bowled in State 4 day cricket by a non-spinner. Only Grimmett, Greg Matthews, Ray Bright and Tim May have bowled more that Rackermann and Angel. Kasprowicz is the closest current player, about 535 overs behing Rackermann.

If he goes for more than 181 runs, he'll over take Matthews as 2nd behind Grimmett for most runs conceded. He's 3rd behind Matthews and PW Jackson for most maidens. He's got the 14th best average from the 50 top wicket-takers (more than 193 wickets) and the 10th best strike rate from that group.

A true workhorse, but very good numbers when you look at them.

He has no hope of playing in finals, had no intention of playing on next year so decided to say goodbye at home (this is the last domestic game at the WACA for the season)

The funniest thing I saw was during the shield final in 1987? WA vs QLD. A worriers batsman hit the ball and it was nearly at the boundary when a by then quite portly Greg Ritchie came to intercept the Ball Some wag near us yelled out "Its Ritchie run 5 run 5".

Truely a great game that one and probably better than most test matches.

Being an Ex QLD'er and at one stage when we were in a spot of bother on dollar day and hohn's came out to bat. I was there with another mate from QLD and yelled out "go for it Trev you can do it" . 6000 pairs of eyes turned around to see who the infidels were in the crowd.

In that game IIRC there were only about 4 players from both sides who hadn't played or went on to play test or ODI cricket.

but back on Angel, he is the last of the great WA fast bowlers. Unfortunately the WACA in their wisdom decided to start importing hack from other states and ignoring the fact that WA has a track record of producing some of the best this country has seen.

If they had any sense they would **** off the wilsons an nica****'s and concentrate on givuing the Thorp's Clark's etc an extended run.
