Haven't seen it, but will at some stage. Did the lawsuit from the role playing game company that said the movie ripped them off ever get settled?

Saw it the other day. A little disapointed. I like dark gothic movies but it lacked atmosphere and also it has a killer soundtrack in the stores yet the movie never used the music:confused:
Isn't this movie a trilogy? There wasn't really an ending, there seemed to be unfinished buisness.Hope the next one if there is one has kate back in the role of Selene and they use some music in it.It was ok but nothing to go crazy about. Love the movie poster though, great artwork.

I enjoyed it but thought it could have been so much better.

They really didnt utilise Kate Beckinsale. The movie needed to sex it up.

Kate was way too military, she needed to vamp it up, after all she was a vampire.

And I'm not talking about getting kate to flash her bits just for the sake of the male viewers (not that I would have been apposed to that) but in the end the whole story hinged on forbidden love, yet Kate and the guy didnt even get it on. Their relationship needed alot more developing to give the story more substance.

The story line did had some real potential with double crosses and revelations towards the end of the film but it basically took a back seat to the fighting and killing.

Probably sounding like a typical sexist male but if ever a movie need some sexing up, it was this one.

P.S. I thought thigh high boots, leather mini skirt and leather overcoat for Kates outfit would have been way cooler.

I thought it was disappointing. As for the whitewolf lawsuit, I believe they got an injunction against them making computer games etc out of the movie but couldn't stop the movie itself...

I enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of the Vampire genre and could probably name 20 Vampire films better than it, but it showed some originality that has been lacking in Vampire films of late. Kate Beckinsale character was a little under developed, although she did a very good job, and looked terrific in that outfit.

Mixed feelings about this one.

Immediate bonus points for having the gorgeous Kate prancing about in tight black leather. Since they had an MA rating anyway, it would have been nice to see her get her kit off, though.

As for the actual movie. The plot was good, with lots of double crosses and convoluted switching about which kept me interested. The dark, gothic look was done very well, and pretty much everyone and everything in the movie looked 'right'- dark, but not gloomy or boring.

The downsides- blatant ripping off of the Matrix, choppy, annoying cinematography, and some frankly **** acting which wasn't really aided by some of the dreadful lines people had to utter-('Now, you die.'). The biggest problem I had with it was that after building up Kate's character as this incredibly sexy kickass, awesome vampire, we're supposed to believe that she'd go completely off the rails and fall for a wussy, boring ******** for no apparent reason. Given that the two lead roles spend a very small amount of time on the screen together, it becomes even more ridiculous.

Devo, can you rattle off a few of those 20 movies so that I can check out a few I haven't seen yet?

Loved the special effects (esp. Viktors final scene and the Warewolf-Vamp hybrid guy), loved Kate, loved the principle behind the storyline, but the good guys kept turning into bad guys (and visa versa) so quickly and pointlessly that I couldn't properly keep track of who was who, and it spoilt the story a bit.
As a vampire lore purist, it also pished me off to see them reflecting, when every major source on them for the last 200 years has pointed out they have no reflection. That Kate also almost died from lack of oxygen was another laughable point, as was Viktors heart begining to "beat" as he awoke, as we all know vampires are reanimated corpses with niether breath nor heartbeat.

Wasn't as good as I expected, but was pretty damn cool, if you ignored some of the gaping continuity holes, unanswered questions and lore flouting.

As the novelist once said - "never let the facts get in the way of a good story", and this was a pretty good story.

I give it 6.5 out of 10.

The best spelling errors are the ones that make the mistaken sentence funnier than the real one!
