...we learn to play up the middle
...we learn to pass the ball to moving team-mates
...we stop trying to play 'Gabba style in Confederate terrirory
...we reinvent TEAM play
...we learn where the goals are
...we stop blaming the umpire for poor decision making
...we begin to value the possession granted by those up-field who made the possession possible
Very disappointed

...We come up against an injury-ridden Carlton side;
...We go out and try to prove the Melbourne footy public wrong etc.

We wont win in Melbourne until we
.They grow a spine
.They get out of the "Boy in the bubble"atmosphere of the 'Gabba
.Quit blaming everybody else except themselves
.Man up and play a different style of football at the smaller grounds
.SACK LEIGH MATTHEWS AND HIS WHOLE POSSE
Secondly if they want to see how a REAL TEAM plays footy instead of a bunch of over-paid, suntanned Queenslanders, go and see the Fitzroy Reds in the Amateurs.
Until the coach stops making excuses.
They are proffessinal atheletes. They should be ready at the begining of the season, to play in Perth every darn week.
The whole club needs a shake up. Top to bloody bottom.
How many of the board and admin and footy department have been there more than 5 years.
We need to change the marshmallow mentallity of the club.
Don't just blame the players. They are given the excuses by the coach. Always in the papers or getting his face on the Tv whinging. We are a negative club.
We are soft.
Get rid of Matthews, Allan,Ireland, and others.
Be men instead of little boys.

I know one things for sure. My team could be able to beat Brisbane.
No point playing finals if you can't play in Melbourne. Wave goodbye to finals Brisbane, you cant win in Melbourne so therefore you can't play finals footy.

....but where's all the screaming chicks?
Don't worry guys, you should win this week against the Crows, at home you're nigh on unbeatable.
Just enquiring, how are things on the injury front?? Aker, how's he?? Power and McRae back?? Leppitsch, etc.. any other possible in's this week??
Cheers
Mc Rae is a worry. He has just come back from a major foot injury, and he was listed as having a foot injury.
Keating looked proppy, should have not played.Lets hope he has not further niggled his current injury.
Power, who knows.
Leppas a few weeks away.
That said....
We have depth. Some great players in the reserves.
Copeland was elevated afew weeks ago to the main list, he obviously is thought of highly.Lets try him.
How about Charman, he's a cracker.
Mc Grath,Haddley, have immense pace and skills.
To name a few.
The other injured player who we are missing big time is Sshaun Hart. Lets hope he returns soon.

yeah agreed anna. I think its about time we gave some of the young kids a go, just to put a rocket up some of these "senior" players who think they are a sure thing week in week out. Give Bushie, McGrath, Hadley, Charman and the likes a run. We don't know what we could be hiding in those four.

From what i've heard in the match reports - bolts has been playing really well of late - and there a few guys in the team who really haven't been standing up of late.
cheers

Just thought it was time to remind everyone of a few statements made earlier in the year calling for the sacking of Matthews and various members of the Lions admin. Makes for quite interesting reading. Various people have become very quiet for the last 13 weeks or so.

I'd say that at the time of posting, many of these opinions were well and truly justified...

From what I believe at the time, from a board members wife. After the Carlton match, Matthews was hauled before the board and told he would be sacked at the end of the season if things didn't change.
From that game on, we have looked steelier. The guys are playing good footy. They are together.Ever noticed, we have stable position players, no messing around putting players in unfamiliar territory every match.
What ever was said , I am glad it was. It shouldn't have needed to mind you.
Not what I was told by a board member, Tapestry. A couple of board members spoke to Matthews about their concerns, but Matthews was never threatened with the sack.
Perhaps a few of Steve Dalzell's comments were justified, Mr. Ripper, but calls for Leigh Matthews and the board's sacking sacking after 6 rounds and when the team was hit with injuries to Power, Leppitsch, Johnson, Lappin, just to name a few, I thought were a little premature and unjustified. From the start of the Ansett Cup to Round 8 of the main season (our last loss), we had also played at home 4 times out of 13 matches.
