Recruited From:
Brisbane 2001 National Draft, traded for selection 49. Macarthur / North Ballarat Rebels U18
Honours: Played in South Africa.
Picked him up as a tough competitor after he had 21 games with Brisbane. Could have been picked up by Collingwood under the 'Father-Son Rule' as he is the son of one of their long serving and famous players Billy Picken, but was over-looked.
He played all three Wizard Cup matches in 2002 but the senior games eluded him because of a lack of opportunity. Best he managed was to be nominated as an emergency. Played well for Werribee in the VFL.
Can play in most positions on the ground - defence, the midfield or as a clever forward.

Senior Games: 174
Goals: 46
Recruited From: Braybrook
Honours: Nominated for Team of the Century.
Versatile and talented tall used in a number of positions. played a whole season on the wing. Used extensively as a half back flanker and finally as centre half back. Usually wore long sleeves.

I remember that he was the hero of one game at centre half back against Collingwood when it was pouring with rain. They just could not pass him, he stopped everything that day, he was just always in the road. It was a good and unexpected win.

He became a great club man and when retired became the Football manager at the club. His son was not drafted under the father and son rule and he went to play many games for Carlton.

Gary Merrington, a son of the Scray

John "Bottles" Greenwood. Stringly half back flanker with a good leap but not so good general ability. I recall one game aginsnt Hawthorn when he was moved onto John Peck after half time. Peck had 4 on Ken Duff to that point and kicked one more for the match. Bottles played him from behind and climbed all over his back when the ball came in high.

Terry Love was #19 in the early '80s. He only played one or two games. It was kind of embarrising yelling out "Come on Love" whenever he got near the ball.
