18 Leon Cameron
Height: 183
Weight: 83
Birthday: 2 September 1972
Period on list: 1990 to 1999
Senior Games: 162
Goals: 68
Recruited From: South Warrnambool, 1988 National draft pick 7.
Honours: Club Best and Fairest 1993.

Played as a winger, ruck-rover and half-back-flanker.
Had superb skills on the left or right side of his body. Never knew if he was going to kick left or right foot. Was often the nominated kicker to kick out after a point had been scored. Could kick the ball a long way. He disposal accuracy percentage was almost 100% and was far better that any other player in the competition. His passes almost always found their man.

Often, if a team mate was outside 50 and was dubious about making the distance there was a set play where-by Cameron would run past and receive a quick handball and boot it through the goals.

In the 1999 National draft traded to Richmond for draft choice 37 and 66 for which we picked up Mitchell Hahn and Ryan Hargrave. Came back in 2004 to join the coaching staff at the Mighty Bulldogs.

18 Trent Bartlett
Height: 189
Weight: 95
Birthday: 26 November 1976
Period on list: 2000 to 2002
Senior Games:42
Goals: 34
Disposals: 298
Recruited From: Deloraine (Tasmania), Brisbane
Went to the full-forward position and sometimes in the ruck. Had a promising 2000 when he played 21 games and kicked 20 goals.

His strength was a major asset, and if he didn't mark the ball he often brought it to ground for goal sneaks to put it through.

Went to play for Tasmania when he left the Bulldogs.

18 Simon Beasley
Height: 195
Weight: 95
Birthday: 26 July 1956
Period on list: 982 to 1989
Senior Games: 154
Goals: 575
Recruited From: Swan Districts
Honours: Team of the Century at full-forward. Coleman Medal 1985 with 105 goals. Leading goal-kicker from 1982 to 1988 with 82, 69, 61, 105, 88, 73 and 82. Leading 1ll-time club goal-kicker with 575. 6 state games for Western Australia. Simpson Medalist in 1981.

Had great anticipation. A very fast lead and high mark and accurate kick. He impressed talent scouts through his dominating play in an interstate match Victoria vs Western Australia. After that it was a race for his signature. But the Bulldogs turned up just at the right time.

His goal-kicking started slowly in 1982 with the ball not coming to him often or quickly enough. By round 11 he had only 22 goals. In the second half of the season things changed around, he booted 12 against Geelong and finished up with 82 for the year.

He finished with an average of 3.73 goals per match, a very good average.

After football he started a successful business as a stockbroker.
Later he became a book-maker.

18 Ian Salmon
Period on list: 1970 to 1976
Senior Games: 113
Goals: 34
Recruited From: Leongatha
Honours: Finals in 1974 and 1976.
Came down to the Western Oval as an ex-cow technologist, a tough raw-boned tall kid who they said could kick a bag of wheat over a silo. He just about could too.

A left footer who played mainly in the ruck and backline, but took stints at full-forward and centre-half forward. Nick-named "Fish" and sometimes "Sock-eye".

Eventually returned to the farm although he had many more games left in him.

Was largely responsible for recruiting Steve Wallis.

Leon Cameron - Silky Skills. I loved watching him play and still feel aggrieved that he finished his career at Richmond. Almost my favourite ever Bulldog.

I still dont know what his preferred kicking foot was, he was so good on both sides.

The other great thing about him was his versatility, you could play him virtually anywhere on the field - half back, midfield, back pocket, and he'd be very effective in all those positions. Still remember all his goals on the left from outside 50 for many years at the club.

Did pretty well at the Tigers for the time he was there too.

Onya Leon.

He used to kick bags of 8 and 10 in the reserves, get promoted to the seniors kick none, get dropped, kick bags of 8 and 10 in the reserves, get promoted to the seniors, kick none, get dropped, kick bags of 8 and 10 in the reserves, get promoted to the seniors kick none, get dropped, you get the picture. He was an extremely accurate kick over 30 metres but that seemed to be his limit

Who will ever forget waking up on a Saturday morning to the sound of rain and wondering if Mick would give Beaser a game or turn to that wet weather specialist, Tony Liberatore.

Malthouse ruined Beasley's confidence to play in wet weather and pigeon holed Libba as a wet day battler.

I'll never forget the look on my son's face when he was out on the ground at training when he was about 4 or 5 and Beasley walked past. My son just kept tilting his head further and further back to see how tall he was. We tend to forget he was 6' 5" and just see the pale skin and wispy thinning hair.

The day he kicked 12 against Geelong they had absolutely no idea how to play him and resorted to turning their back on the play and just played him face to face.

I loved watching Leon Cameron, the way he would create play from across the half back line and set up a forward move. A great shame he moved across to THEM, but look what we picked up in exchange. A very welcome return to the Dogs this year.

Trent Bartlett - how could we forget his 5 goals in the Round 4, 2000 clash with Carlton after the tragic history comment by John Elliot. Bart had to stand up for us that day after Chris Grant went off with that shoulder/arm/neck injury. I can still see him "sprinting" in from the pocket to kick a goal that sealed it for us.

Phillip Bradmore was unusual in that he was from NSW (North Shore). At the time he was with us we had 3 players around the same height (a tick over 6ft) and they made up our half forward line. One was Jim Edmond, but I can't remember the other one. All were good marks for their height and took turns being the CHF, but were just too short.

Phil went to West Perth after finishing with the Dogs and won their B&F in 1985 and became a bit of a legend for them (I think that was for his off field activities as well as on field).

Cameron was a champ. I remember his first game against the swans where he kept receiving from Kennedy at Full-back and just continually drove us forward.

Does anyone know how many games Leon played for the Tigers?
Just want to make sure any Little Leons play for the doggies.

Cameron definitely lifted the team whenever he played...his precision kicking with either foot was always excellent.

I was devastated when he left to go to Richmond ( I am starting to hate that team..a la Brown lol ).

But seeing him back at the club now..he is where he belongs!!

18. Ray "Gus" Baxter. Father of Darren. A full forward, not quite in Beasley's class but bagged 4 occasionally. Tall and thin, solid mark without ever being brilliant.

The Ugg Boot! What a star, my favourite all time player at the Doggies.
