South Africa elected to bat first after winning the toss.

They made 4/296 after the 50.

Smith 46 off 62
Gibbs 18 off 27
Peterson 36 off 43
Kallis 95 off 97 - not out. Good that he missed the ton.
Dippennar 30 off 45
Kluesener 41 off 38 - not out.

Windies Bowling

Dillon 1/58 (9)
Collymore 0/52 (10)
Hurley 0/65 (10)
Gayle 1/53 (10)
Rampaul 1/49 (9)
Sarwan 1/15 (2)

West Indies made a promising start.

Gayle 26 off 22 - getting back into things.

Powell and Chanderpaul had a good solid partership with Powell going at 34 off 34 balls. Powell has found a position at 3 for the time being.

Sarwan came in and had a 108 run partnership with Chanderpaul off 18.5 overs. Chanderpaul getting out when the score was 200.

Chanderpaul made 92 off 75 balls. He was brilliant.

Sarwan and Lara have battled on and the West Indies at current are 3/266 after 43 overs.

Sarwan is on 74 off 99
Lara is on 32 off 28.

Lara came in at 5, came in at 5 last ODI aswell. Having him down the order is great because we had 3/200 needing another 98 and we had Lara come in at that time when we needed 5.70 an over. Lara and Sarwan have been playing patiently scoring singles and fours when they can.

West Indies require another 32 runs off 7 overs with 7 wickets remaining.

This is going to be a huge win and a huge confidence booster if we can pull it off. Chanderpaul gave us the start which was surprising.

So where did this form suddenly come from? They looked unlikey to make 200 in previous games (well, all out for 54 kind of points that out pretty well...)

The sun has just set when the 2nd innings starts for matches in SA, and as a result there is a bit of due and humidity about and the new ball hoops around A LOT. I remember the Pakistan v England World Cup game at Durban I think it was and Pakistan were 70/7 and all their first 7 wickets fell to excessive swing or seam. Then Shoaib Akhtar made 43 off 16 in a lost cause from number 11. Same thing happened a week or so later when England fell victim to Ashish Nehra in similar conditions. I reckon if you're only 3 down after 15 overs batting under lights over there you're doing well. After the shine goes off the ball batting seems to be reasonably comfortable. I think the main reason we don't have the same problems here in Australia is that most of the time the 2nd innings starts before the sun has gone down.

Also nowhere else seems to rival the lighting we have at our cricket grounds. The respective cricket associations should take a well earned pat on the back. We are very lucky to have such good conditions for day night games when you compare it to the patchy lighting on offer by most other countries, if there is any lighting at all. Ours are as close to an even contest as you are going to get for D/N games.

Yep good call. The ones in Perth especially are brilliant. They are deadset as bright as day over there.

This is the same West Indies that was bowled out for 54 a week or so ago isn't it?

Great win by the Windies !!!

Let's hope they can turn things around on a permanent basis and return to their rightful place on the top of world cricket.

It's good to see other Windies fans out there, I have been following them ever since the awesome early 80s. I even barrack for them against Australia.

Lara has sublime skills and remains the second best batsmen in the world just behind Tendulkar.

You're an Australian? If you are, its good to know I'm not the only one who supports them.

I think Powell will stay at number 3 from now on. A 50 the other day and then 34 off 34 yesterday. He looks to be a better option up top than down bottom. Having Powell and Gayle at the top of the order will bring us off to a great start.

Lara to stay at 5 because if wickets fall early, we need him down there to guide the innings.

Chanderpaul could very well stay opener. Lower down the order, the pressure is on him and he can't seem to perform that well when the pressure is on. Having him at the top of the order helps him.

I'd like Hurley to make way for either Bradshaw or Edwards for the last one dayer.
