Yeah I noticed that Rocco posted it at exactly the same time.
Didn't want to spoil it just in case it was being telecast in delayed mode.
Will they show the game down there on TV?

EDIT: I think that the score on AFL.com is wrong by the way. 42-41

Not likely. Make sure you give us a rundown on who played well.

Doubt it very much. Hopefully they will show some highlights in tomorrow mornings news, since there was nothing said about it on sports tonight tonight.

Obviously the conditions didn't help...but geez our kicking was inaccurate. Hope it isn't a sign of things to come.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the game (for form that is) as it was raining. Not heavy, but just before the game it poured and the conditions were difficult.
Did not think that Eagleton was BOG. Busy, but got caught out a number of times.
The one player that impressed (apart from the usual suspects) was Farren Ray. Might turn out to be a very good pick up.
Still not totally sold on Cooney. Third time I have seen him (twice on TV during the SANFL finals), and dunno. Seems to be in third gear too much. If he starts using the fourth gear a lot, then yes. If fourth gear only functions occasionally or even rarely, dunno.
Apart from that, not much more I can say as it was more of a social occasion for us up here, and with 3 young kids there plus the rain, did not really watch the game that closely.

Great crowd for a practice match.

Not the sort of result we had hoped for, so how are we all feeling today.

Is our enthusiasm dampened, are you disappointed. Did the crappy conditions make it irrelevant. Does it mean anything. Were the players in holiday mode. Were there too many senior players missing or rested during the game to make any sort of call. Does the team still need time to gel. Farrren Ray in the best players and Cam Faulkner kicking a goal, are they the sort of positives we can bring out of the match.

I do not care who they beat, or how, as long as they win. :o

Did you think the dogs played wide and short or long and direct (as the conditions would allow)?

Not concerned about the result ie Conditions, Preparation etc....

The biggest positive however is Mr Ray.

I believe that he is jumping in front of our other midfield young players (players with less than 4 years experience, Murph excepted) and is a definate contender for RD 1!!

Based on what exactly?

Comparing performances over the past 3 - 4 weeks.

Granted, it is still to early to formally assess preseason form but there are definately positive indications.

What is your opinion Sporty?

I think it's a big call to make after 1 intra club, some training sessions, and a game that i doubt too many of us that post here saw.

Good on you if you're prepared to back him, from what i saw of him last week, i'd agree, there are some nice positives that i saw, but to who do you honestly see him "jumping" over from the last 4 years to get a spot in Round 1?

Guido, Murph and Hahn injured, it will give our second tier midfielders a chance to earn a spot.

Hard to say as it was wet and slippery. That turned it into a bit of a scrap, but not wet enough to be a total scrap if that makes sense. Good conditions for the NT as the ball came to ground more often than had it been dry.
Second half was the more experimental one wrt your non regular players.
Wrt Ray he looked more than good, but in the AFL he will play against bigger and fitter opponents than last night. Time will tell.

Maybe three years anyway.

The way I see it Faulkner (FP) & Cooney (HF) are a good chance for a spot in the starting 18.

West, Johnno, Murphy, Hahn, Eagle & possibly Guido look set in the midfield.

This leaves one position (midfield) in the starting line up and possibly two on the interchange.

The players in the hunt for these three spots (in no particular order) are:

Birss
Power
B. Murphy
Cross
McGuiness (maybe not in the midfield)
McMahon

and now Ray!

It maybe the media hype for the new boy but I seem to be hearing more positive news about him than quite a few of the others.

What do you think "Sport" a fair assessment or am I talking S.....??

P.S. This assumes that Robbo has a spot in the BP.

That is a big call on Ray and I doubt that we should be looking to play him in the seniors anytime before mid season for his own development. What might work in his favour is the injury list is full of midfielders which forced us to play a very big team the other night. He is a quality youngster who I think will play this season but I just don't want to see him rushed.

Fair enough call OS Re Player development etc...

He did however have a year in the WAFL.

I suppose the point I was trying to make is that there is now good competition in our second tier midfield group.

It is from this second tier that we need 2 - 3 players to improve, be hard and establish themselves in the starting 22 for us to significantly climb the ladder.

It's very tempting to rush him in given his has, as you pointed out, already played a season of senior football but it is another big step up in class and he really does not have the build to go with it.
I think we should be looking towards a few players from the following group to become regular senior players this season:
Cooney, Faulkner, Power, Birss, Gilbee, McGuinness, Cross and McMahon which should top off our list nicely. Ray is also thereabouts.

OS, as you pointed out "Gilbee". I forgot about him.

He is one player I am expecting to take the step this year.

Do you know how his preseason has been going?

He is on the injury list but is close to playing. A good young player in the making. I talked to him last Saturday and he is making good progress and is very fit. Ran by himself for about 14 laps last week and really put in a few quick ones. Has put on about 3kg and looks fairly strong.
I'm not sure what his best position is but he can play in a number of positions for the Dogs. He might be a good option for the BP if they want to move Robbins into the midfield. Don't listen to Ching though because he would have you believe that Boyd is the front runner for the BP position. ;)

Is it true that Ching is actually Boyd, pushing his own selection in this forum?

Shame, Ching Boyd, shame!

On the other hand Ching (whoever he really is) is a member of the august BHAS and therefore can't be all bad.

Watch him though he could be a destabilising influence within party ranks.

My ears where really hot last night, maybe it wasn't the alcohol?

Back to the footy, I like Robbins but I think there can be better options at BP.
