Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

So many of our players seem to be out of form at the moment and it's going to take a big improvement otherwise we will miss out on a final.

Should however be a pretty good match with some excellent batsmen on both sides against some good quality swing bowlers playing on what surely will be a result wicket.

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

I would imagine it will be a result wicket - therefore the toss will be important !

WA may struggle and will need some luck after last weeks effort , hopefully we can find some form or face dropping out .

Interestingly six TAS players have Gastro and placed on IV drips ,.... not wishing ill fortune on TAS but WA chances rise a little . WA are capable if Marsh fires ?? , Behrendorff comes in which could be a plus also !

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Will not be impressed if Bailey is 12th man for Australia today - huge loss. From what I hear Krejza is the worst affected with the tummy bug, would also be a big out, in a bit of form with the bat too

WA line up looks the stronger on paper. Davis obviously in red hot form with the bat and all others quite capable of making a score. Bowlers should be well suited to Bellerive conditions, have always rated Hogan (his Hurricanes experience might serve him well), and Rimmington/NCN could well get on a roll here.

No doubt the curators will have prepared a result wicket so a lot of pressure on Bird/Butterworth/Faulkner to bowl well if Tassie are to stand a chance, and a lot of runs need to come from Cowan and Ponting in the absence of GB, Cosgrove and possibly Doolan. Thought Wells would have been ahead of Kruger who has made scores of 22 or less in his last 7 grade innings... but he might get a game anyway if the attrition rate remains high

Bailey wouldn't have played even if he didn't get called into the squad for todays game. They depart for the WI tomorrow!

You'd be right.

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Changes tigers team due to illiness. IN: Wells, Laughlin and Rainbird. OUT: Smith, Doolan and Johnson. Ben Laughlin will make his Shield debut and Rainbird will be 12th man. Hope the boys who are sick make a speedy recovery.

Edit: forgot to mention that wicket - WOW

Edit again. Tassie have won the toss and are bowling on the outfield. Great start!

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Surely that pic is a pisstake and they're playing on the wicket two across on the left?

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Hope not. Tassie are bowling.

When are people going to learn that it isn't only the people in Tassie with two heads, it is also the same with the coins at the coin toss. Always call heads in Tasmania!

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

No idea what our top order will look like but assume it will be along the lines of

Cowan
Cazzulino
Kruger
Ponting (c)
Wells
Faulkner
Butterworth
Krejza
Jones
Laughlin
Bird

Top 6 not exactly filling me with confidence - boys had better bowl well this morning!

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Just got the stream working, that pic above is indeed the pitch - wow. Maybe we can bat on the other one?

10:28 AM The umpires are strolling out. Lucky there's some stumps out there or they'd struggle to identify the right track...

:thumbsu:

EDIT: This is dog Sh*t. 9 overs in, and we still don't have a wicket bowling on the outfield. Although sounds like we have had some close calls.

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Bird removes both openers in the space of 4 balls - figures of 2-2 in his sixth. Another bag here and he might be pushing for a seat on the plane to the Caribbean? Though I would fancy my chances on this deck

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Bird is a Jet!!!

2 wickets in an over.

Don't get too excited - I could take wickets on that deck!

And why would WA go in with an extra bowler; it's not like you'll need it on that deck. Very stupid decision.

Possibly because Behenderoff will put up more of a batting resistance than any of the more fancied grade cricketers.....

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

2/31 off 16 probably a good start for WA.

New ball just about seen off for only two wickets on THAT pitch. They would take it.

What's the point of those Future's League games if we aren't going to reward Beaton for his game against the ACT?

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

The Trent Copeland breakout season goes to Jackson Bird.

Solid question - i daresay the reason we have picked 5 bowlers is they were pretty rooted after the last match.

Still - we've picked a side to win us the match as opposed to aiming for a draw - so you can't knock the positive intent.

Re: Sheffield Shield: Tasmani v Western Australia @ Hobart (Thu - Sun)

Unmentioned here but the Melbourne Age is reporting the illness sweeping the Tasmanian team is in fact a severe bout of food poisoning that a couple of South Australian players got as well. Alex Doolan and Johnston were apparently in hospital for a time and Kreja may have been as well. They are squarely pointing the finger straight at the SACA.

The game is/was never going to be a draw based on the pitch.

We're already 3 down and nearly into the tail; I honestly think we'd have been better off with a more traditional line up.
