Fremantle midfielder Nat Fyfe is to undergo surgery on his left shoulder.

The 20-year-old dislocated his shoulder today at training ahead of the club’s round six clash with Gold Coast on Saturday.

Fyfe was a late withdrawal from the game against St Kilda in round four but returned to play against Carlton last Friday night at Patersons Stadium following specialist medical advice.

Senior coach Ross Lyon has previously said that if Fyfe aggravated the injury again, the club would have no hesitation in sending him for surgery.

Two full shoulder reconstructions in around 8 months, that's not right. He must be feeling really bad. The Vic specialist is doing the op, I would like to know who did the first one. And I hope they change up his rehab from last time.

“Based on the advice of our medical team, we envisage that Nat will require a recovery and rehabilitation period of about 12 weeks, which would make him available for selection in the latter part of the season.”

Very much dislike the above. He should be given until next season to strengthen it and not rushed back for the end of the season, even if we were to make finals.

I agree, in AFL they always want to rush things. Obviously to get the player ready to go but that doesn't help the long term only the short term. He's had serious issues in a short period of time so they should take extra time to give him the best chance to never have any recurring shoulder issues.

Menegola will definitely get the spot. He's been the most consistent performer and we don't need another defender.

How many weeks after shoulder reco can one start running hard again?

I'd be inclined to hold fyfe off until next year, unless we look like capable of impacting the finals.

What's up with mora man.Hayes and krueser same injury and back playing. Why is mora so delayed?

Mora had well reported setbacks and then some soft tissue injuries. Hayes is a freak anyway. Not many come back and play like he's been playing straight away.

Let's be real here guys, surely this is finally enough for the muppet Holocaust Harvey bashers to take a step back and say they were wrong.

True about Hayes.Gives me hope that mora is going to be fine structurally,it's the mental side of it that mora now has to overcome I guess.

This had an air of inevitability about it unfortunately. Ah well, come back stronger and better Nat :thumbsu:

Slight positive is seeing what Menegola has to offer, assuming we use the LTI rookie upgrade. Having seen a bit of the WAFL as well as heard a few reports, he's an exciting prospect.

That was my thoughts too. Kind of sucks, but the nature of these injuries and the way they were talking about it, it would have been bloody lucky to have got through the season without ongoing issues of some sort.

Perhaps it's better now than in a month or two. If all goes really well he can squeeze a few more games at the end of the year to set him up for a solid pre-season and hit the ground in AA form in 2013.

i'm kinda glad. i'd rather it happening innocuously at training than by a tester from k.hunt. i couldn't relax watching nat around the ball last weekend.

Looking for positives, hopefully Nick Lower gets first crack in the mids as I seriously rate his hardness around the contest.

yep, hopefully ross brings lower in.

Hopefully will have the same surgeon that operated on Andrew Walkers shoulder.
Had the same issues that Fyfe is having at the moment, seemed a normal "reco" wasn't enough. They now say you would need a tractor to pull Walkers arm out.
Too good a footballer is Fyfe to be out of the game, all the best in his recovery.

Dr Greg Hoy was the shoulder specialist.

I think Fyfe will get the surgery that will restrict his shoulder movement but will limit the chance for this to happen again (aka Walker's shoulder)

Take a moment and treasure the high fliying, one hander marks of 2011 as it we probably have seen the last of this syle of Fyfey. I am damn going to miss all this... :(

Is Walker's doc the same one Fyfe visited day before Saints-Freo game by any chance? Hopefully it is, walker looked confident and stretching out for grabs (nearly pulled off MOTY).

Fyfe can take grabs, haven't seen much of this in 2012, definitely the shoulder. He can bulk up a bit now and stay in shape on the bike and who knows.. could impact later on in the season. I don't get the whole 'let him stay out until 2013', he has 9 or 10 months to get right for Round 1... Pav has his shoulder reconstructed every so often and that's immeidately after the season ends and is back into full training within 6-8 weeks.

I said as much a few weeks ago, even before his dislocation. Everyone went silly. If it takes a bit longer so be it, as long as we see the Fyfe of 2011 again.
