Notes:
After a bright start to his AFL career in 2011, second year blues hit Cameron in 2012, managing just the 4 matches at AFL level and missing a large portion of the year with injury. After a good showing in Round 1 against St Kilda, it all went downhill for Cameron in Round 3. Coming on in the last quarter as sub, he played an unfortunate part in 3 opposition goals in 3 minutes and was dropped the following week. A quick return in Round 14 against Geelong was his last taste of AFL football for the season before the last two months with a foot fracture. Tall, quick, courageous, fit…a strong pre season should see Cameron look to cement himself in the AFL lineup for 2013.

Notes:
Cameron was another youngster that struggled to get on the park in 2012, managing just 10 games for the season and only 2 quarters of football at AFL level. Hamstring issues riddled his season, missing 10 matches and ruining any chance he had of gaining any momentum through his football. When he did get on the park, he was more than solid at SANFL level. Cameron was given a one year contract at the end of the season in the hope that a new fitness regime and a strong development coach in Hinkley can get the best out of his raw talent.

Notes:
Nathan’s first season at Port Adelaide was one of a slow burn. He took his time to settle in but started to shine late in the year at SANFL and was rewarded with 4 AFL matches to end the year. Coming to the club as a creative rebounder from defence, the best football he played all year was up forward and through the midfield for North Adelaide. A good pre season to help build his strength should see him gain more of an opportunity at AFL level in 2013, whether that is as a 3rd tall in defence or up forward.

blee.jpg

Hopefully Blee will get a couple of runs in the midfield to see what he has to offer in there.
Sometimes we need to listen to the SANFL coaches and try things out just like we did with Dew.

After such a good 2011 which saw him win the 2011 Port board POTY, Robbie lasted just two matches of the 2012 season before heavily injuring his knee in a sickening incident in the final minute of the Round 4 clash against Collingwood. A strong pre season all came to nothing after a hamstring injury saw him miss the first two matches and the knee injury ended his season prematurely. Hopefully we can see the best of Robbie once again in 2013.

David struggled for form and consistency through 2012 and ended up being traded to Melbourne at the end of the season. A long term fan favourite, David’s best work in 2012 came as being the sub, such as his match winning performance in Round 1 and is excellent performance against Richmond in Round 23. Aside from that, David failed to consistently find the ball from quarter to quarter and found himself dropped three times during the year. David played 111 AFL, 11 SANFL and 1 SANFL reserves match whilst on Port Adelaide’s list.

Daniel continued life on the fringe in 2012, playing 12 games at AFL level but also being dropped three times throughout the year. Spending time predominantly up forward with stints in the middle, his best game came against Sydney in Round 3, whilst also performing well against Essendon and Collingwood. Daniel has been given a one year contract for 2013, to see if he can develop into the consistent performer he is so close to becoming.

Aaron showed great development throughout 2012 and looks to have a future at AFL level. He complemented some strong SANFL form throughout the season with 12 games of AFL football. Whilst it took a while for Aaron to look comfortable at AFL level, he played some good games to end the season playing as a lead up forward across the half forward line. If Aaron can improve his core strength and continue to develop his skills then he should look to get more game time and responsibility in 2013 and beyond.

After two strong seasons in 2010 & 2011, Tom failed to play to expectation in 2012. Starting the season in the SANFL, Tom became a regular in defence through the second half of the season, with his best games coming against Geelong and Melbourne. Despite his experience, he was often beaten and had a number of goals kicked on him throughout the year. Tom was given a one year contract at the end of the season and must perform if he is to stay on the list in 2014.

Notes:
After an empthatic ending to the 2011 season, the club and its supporters expected big things from Butch in 2012. Unfortuantely he failed to live up to those lofty expectations, with a hip injury putting a premature end to his season and a restriction on his influence. He played a couple of good matches in the first half of the season, with a 4 goal effort against Adelaide in Round 5 the peak of his year. But, he struggled with positioning and an ability to find the football regularly. If John can stay fit through the pre season and put on some strength, hopefully 2013 will be the season where John becomes a regular contributor at AFL level.

Notes:
Brent was another player who missed significant time throughout the season due to injury. After missing much of the pre season and starting in the SANFL reserves, Brent quickly made his way into the AFL lineup and stayed there for 10 matches. A knee injury after the Geelong match in Round 14 stopped his season in its tracks and he did not play another match at any level for the rest of the year. Brent impressed with his ability to get his hands on the ball at stoppages, but durability or lack of it has always been a factor for him. Hopefully the new coaches can work with him to try and get him on the park for longer.

Jarrad had a breakthrough season in 2012, making his AFL debut and playing 9 games at AFL level. Like every other ruckman on our list, Jarrad missed a number of games for the year through soreness and injury. Jarrad impressed with his ability to get hitouts to advantage and also in his attack on the ball at stoppages. Fitness is the key for Jarrad going forward. If he can improve his fitness base this year, we should see Jarrad become our number one ruckman before too long.

Notes:
Matt had an up and down season in 2012. Against Carlton and GWS he played arguably the two best games at AFL level of his career. Though for much of the season he struggled to find the football, only managing over 20 disposals a match once. He also missed a number of games due to injury, suspension or poor form. At his best, Matt is a bullocking, hard nosed player who can use his strength to win the ball and tackle well. His issue has always been an inability to find enough of the football. Matt must improve this if he is to stay in the side long term in the future.

Matthew suffered again through a lack of a pre season, missing the first month of the season with a hip injury before spending 2 months at SANFL level. He came into the side in the second half of the season and despite battling manfully, was well beaten on numerous occasions by an inability to get his hands near the ball. Its imperitive that the club does everything to keep Matthew fit this pre season. A strong pre season to build his core strength and fitness will give him the best chance of proving himself at AFL level.

Dom had a tough year in 2012. Struggling in the first part of the season, Dom was moved to a back flank part way through the year to help out in defence and try and get hin influencing the game more. His best football came late in the year against Melbourne and Fremantle, whilst also good in the last round against Richmond. There were times throughout the year when his spot in the side came under question, with his normally excellent inside work struggling. A loyal servant for a number of years, it is important for both the club and Dom himself that he goes back to his best in 2013.

Tom impressed again in 2012, starting the season on the rookie list before playing 9 games for the year. Tom did some defensive jobs on some strong opposition against Geelong, Adelaide and Fremantle and continued to look the part as a developing backman throughout the year. His solid form at AFL level, size and ability to shut down both small and tall players has seen him promoted to the senior list for 2013.

Showing great poise and skill for a first year player, Chad ended the season on fire when freed up to play more of a midfield role. His 27 disposal match in Round 22 against the Lions saw him win a Rising Star nomination. Now that Chad knows what it takes to play at AFL level, his future is all up to him. He has the ability to become a real elite player of the PAFC.

Whilst Ben had some good games, especially when played through the middle, he struggled with decision making, skill and pace throughout the year. He ended the season in the SANFL before missing the last month with ankle injuries. Ben’s future at the club is still up in the air, after a failed trade request to North Melbourne during trade period.

2012 saw Andrew begin to look at home at AFL level. It was a long road to get there during the year – spending a month at both SANFL reserves & SANFL level – but once he got the responsibility to play in the centre square, he began to perform. Whilst he still has a way to go to become a regular contributor, Andrew would have gained great confidence in his season. His best games came against finals opposition – Geelong, Hawthorn, Fremantle – a good sign for the future. A full pre season should see Andrew play 22 games at AFL level in 2013.
