Kane against started the season on the rookie list but this time had to wait a decent chunk of the season before being promoted to the senior list. His first AFL game for the year came in round 8 against Fremantle, his 20 disposal and 2 goal contribution being more than solid. He played a further 9 games, mostly through the middle part of the season, but was unable to influence games as perhaps he would have liked, despite being given more opportunities as a starting player than in 2013 when he was given the sub role frequently. Kane's place on the senior list remains unclear, although it is expected he will be kept on as a depth player.

Stewy appeared in Power colours just 4 times in 2014, his worst return since he failed to play a game in his debut season. Paul is a versatile player and a popular member of the team but it's unclear what his role is going forward. He signed a contract extension mid-year to end any free agency whispers.

Unfortunately for Tommy, his opportunities were very limited in 2014. He played just 3 games, performing strongly in all, but appears to have been overtaken by younger, better rounded players. He remains uncontracted for 2015 but may be kept on for depth and leadership purposes.

Youngy was caught in the twilight zone this year. He played 14 games, nearly doubling his career tally, but his opportunities were mostly limited to the sub role. Of his 14 games, he had 30% or less game time in 8. As such, he was not much more than a pinch hitter in the midfield rotation late in games and his long term role remains a question.

Unfortunately for Dom, the end came fairly quickly in 2014. He struggled with the pace of the game from the very start of the season. Ken gave him several lock down jobs off half back which he was able to fulfill decently enough but you got the impression that it was what he wasn't offering in terms of run and attack that may have been holding the team back a bit. In the finish, he announced that the round 18 game against Melbourne would be his last and he was sent off in style with a closely fought home win. A 228 game player, a premiership player, and our leader in the toughest of times. We salute you Dom.

Jarman was our first round draft selection in 2013 and was targeted for the purposes of playing on the competition's elite, pacey small forwards. He had a really strong debut season, playing 18 games and being unlucky to miss the finals series. Throughout the season, he played on the likes of Jeff Garlett, Eddie Betts and Hayden Ballantyne. His performance opposed to the latter earned him the round 8 rising star nomination. Jarman's ability to win ground level contests makes him a difficult opponent and the development of his aerial strength and offensive play will only enhance his game in the coming years.

Neadey was the surprise packet of 2013 and ended up being the surprise packet of 2014 in a totally different way. He was seemingly off the selection radar, playing his first game at AFL level in round 11 and not returning to the AFL team until round 20. However, he made up for lost time in the last 7 weeks of the season, providing a real spark and energy in the forward half which had been lacking through the middle part of the season. His defensive pressure was top shelf, he kicked goals and demanded the attention of opposition clubs to be a key part of our late season run.

Review by TeeKray

After a breakout 2013 campaign in which he played every game and established himself as an important cog in the Port back 6, Cam had a more difficult time of things in 2014. He was overlooked for a start in round one and played just two AFL games prior to round 16. It was an injury to Trengove which opened the door for Cam and he took the opportunity with both hands, playing all bar one game for the remainder of the season and contributing strongly for the most part. As it was in 2013, his intercept marking was the key feature of his game, along with an elite ability to run and create space between the arcs. There has been some speculation of a move back home to Victoria but given his enormous ability and potential, it is unlikely the club would look to let him go.

After such a successful debut season for the club, 2014 was a more bumpy ride for Angus. He started the season in decent form before tearing his hamstring running into an open goal against North Melbourne in round 3. He returned to the team and kicked 13 goals in his next 4 games before a dry spell that saw him slot just two majors between round 14 and the finals. He was however to be a significant contributor in the finals, including a bag of 4 to show from a near match winning final quarter against the Hawks. Unfortunately, Angus played yet another season with the fallout from his former club's supplements saga still unresolved and potentially impacting his playing future. It is to his credit that he has been able to compete so well despite this major distraction.

Jackson's importance to the club has always been obvious but was never illustrated more than it was in 2014. From the time he was injured just before half time in the second Showdown against the Crows - when we held the lead and top spot on the AFL ladder - to his point of return a month later, we lost 4 of 5 games. One player does not necessarily make the difference but Trengove's leadership of the backline and ability to pinch hit in the ruck is of unquestionable importance to the team. An illustration of this was against Fremantle in round 8 when he went into the ruck for the entire last quarter and not only neutralised the Sandilands threat but dominated the whole midfield battle with his ruck and follow up work. He remains one of the key players and leaders in this team's push for a premiership.

Kane had another consistent season in 2014. He more often than not played on the opposition's best midfielder and look to close them down at the stoppage before using his running to work them hard defensively. His best game for the season came against Geelong where he held Selwood to just 17 possessions whilst helping himself to 33 of his own. He was rewarded with third place in the club's best and fairest - the 10th time he has finished on the podium in the last 11 years. He has signed on for a 15th season at the club and needs just 7 games to become the first player to play 300 AFL games for Port Adelaide.

Matt joined the club from Richmond last off-season and fitted in perfectly from the get-go. His pace and core strength enables him to evade tackles and work the space on the quick break, something he was able to exploit for many of his 25 goals for the season. His form dropped away late in the season as a result of a groin injury and he was managed by the club heading into the finals. A fractured jaw suffered in the first week of the finals did not stop him from taking his place for the second week of the finals, highlighting his courage and commitment. He also won the AFL's Goal of the Year for a full field running effort against his old team to cap off a strong debut year at the club.

TJ had another consistent year in 2014. He patrolled the defensive 50 with a minimum of fuss but a maximum effect, doing jobs on dangerous opponents, helping out his teammates and clearing the ball with precision. The coach knows he can count on TJ to lock down on a in form player - for example, when Eddie Betts was threatening to take the round 2 Showdown away from us with a bag of goals opposed to Impey, TJ was given the match up and kept him goalless for the remainder of the game. He also kept Luke Breust goalless in the preliminary final, a top effort

Jasper is a player who divides fans like no other but even his biggest critics would have to admit that 2014 was his best season yet. He played all 25 games and was the team's designated kicker from the kick ins. He has managed to eradicate many of the fundamental errors which had previously characterised his game and is now a dependable player. His finals series was very solid, proving his ability to perform under pressure.

2014 was a breakout year for Hombschy. He played all but one game and become a key member of the team's back 6. His marking, spoiling and sure use of the football have made him a favourite of coaches and supporters alike. His job on Lance Franklin in round 20 received high praise, keeping the usually dominant Buddy to just 2 goals, one of which came through a clear infringement of the rules.

With fellow ruckmen Jarrad Redden and Brent Renouf succumbing to early season ending injuries, Lobbes was asked to do a mountain of work in 2014. He played all but one game and rucked with often little support, running himself into the ground week after week. The highlight of his season was against Gold Coast in the wet where he picked 16 disposals, 56 hit outs and 12 tackles to give his midfield the edge in a contest dominated by repeat stoppages. Lobbes is to be commended for his courage and efforts this year.

Matthew's high ranking in Toots an obvious recognition by BF posters. He was also afforded the same by the coaching staff who gave him 2nd in the Fos Williams medal as best team man behind Travis Boak.

The coaches award for most improved was also well deserved.

Chad's 2013 was always going to be a hard act to follow. He received close attention in 2014 and was unable to influence games for extended periods, down from 21 disposals per game to 16 per game. However, his incredible class and talent was still on show regularly as he tore teams apart in devastating bursts. He saved his best two games for games against Fremantle - 5 goals in round 8 and 4 in the semi final. Chad also won the AFL's Mark of the Year for a stunning ride on Sean Dempster's shoulders.

Broady enjoyed another consistent year in 2014. He played every game and was one of the team's go-to rebound defenders for kick ins and quick break away kicks. It was good to see him improve his marking this year, taking significantly more marks than he had in any previous season and improving that side of his game noticeably.

Schulzy enjoyed the best year of his career in 2014. He booted 66 goals, including bags of 6 or more on 4 separate occasions. A career best 8 goals against the Bulldogs was the highlight of his season, although he also managed to kick the winning goal with a minute to play against Melbourne. Jay made the All Australian squad of 40 but was not picked in the final team. He has now led the goal kicking in 4 of his 5 seasons at the club - a fantastic achievement and testament to his consistency.

After a lackluster 16 games in 3 years at the Brisbane Lions, Jared was recruited to the club last off-season as our highest profile recruit. He didn't disappoint, playing all but one game and having a clear career break out season. He started the season in fine form, highlighted by 30 disposals and 3 goals against the Giants in the Canberra slog, and whilst his form trailed off a tad, he was still a significant contributor throughout the year. As a relatively young and inexperienced AFL player, the sky is the limit for Jared. We know he has pace and skill to burn; when the more physical and defensive sides to his game meet the natural talent, he has the potential to be as good as he wants to be.

The Hoff went off again in 2014, enjoying another super year. Playing every game, he registered career highs in both marks and disposals. He is now basically a wingman who pinch hits as a mobile forward. Westy started the season in a blaze of glory with 20 disposals, 8 marks and 5 goals against the Blues. This was the first of 7 games where he registered 20 or more disposals and 2 or more goals in a game - outstanding figures in anyone's language.

Despite playing every game and recording the exact same number of disposals and goals as 2013, season 2014 felt like somewhat of a holding year for Ebo. Despite a strong start to the season, including a best on ground performance against his old club West Coast and a 40 disposal effort against the Sydney Swans, Ebo struggled to influence games as the season went on, to the point where he failed to make the top 10 in the club's best and fairest award. Whilst not a poor season by any stretch of the imagination, Brad would likely feel somewhat disappointed by a number of his performances this year and will be looking to get back to his best football in 2015.
