Aussie heavyweight Alex Leapai has a big fight coming up tomorrow morning our time against undefeated German Denis Boytsov. Leapai is long odds to win - but as they say in the fight game: he has a punchers chance - and Leapai certainly has the ability to put people to sleep.

Was good to see Pacquiao back with a win. Love watching him fight.

Only Rios' second career loss. Good win for PacMan, and I see his next fight date has already been set for mid April next year.

Could it be Mayweather in April next year? Joking! I don't think they'll ever fight.

One thing going for Rios is he is jaw is made of cement. His fights against Alvarez are history defining.

David Price has relinquished his British and Commonwealth titles supposedly in a bid to rebuild his career following successive KO defeats to American Tony Thompson.

Price has a fight coming up in Germany on Saturday week. But in taking that fight he has effectively ducked mandatory challengers Dereck Chisora and our own Lucas Browne.

> Price probably needs to rebuild his confidence with a couple of easy fights after twice being KOed by Thompson, and Chisora & Browne were unlikely to provide that for him.

Darren Barker, who beat Daniel Geale last start, is defending his IBF title against Felix Sturm almost as I type this post. Sturm of course lost to Geale prior to Geale losing to Barker. I think Barker has a genuine chance of taking out another big name here.

Well boxing is nothing if not unpredictable.

Sept 2012 Daniel Geale defeated Felix Sturm SD.

Aug 2013 Darren Barker defeated Daniel Geale SD.

...and now only minutes ago >

Felix Sturm defeated Darren Barker TKO 2.

Darren Barker's promoter Eddie Hearn claims Barker dislocated his hip in the 1st round. The towel from Barker's corner sailed in fairly quickly when he got into trouble in the 2nd.

Barker does have a history of hip issues apparently, but that doesn't change the fact that Felix Sturm is now wearing Barker's IBF title belt.

Also today: Erislandy Lara won the vacant WBA light middleweight title in a very one sided affair beating Austin Trout UD 12.

Official cards:

John McKaie 118-109
John Poturaj 117-110
Tom Schreck 117-110

Jabs
Lara 81 of 277, 29%
Trout 34 of 285, 12%

Power
Lara 69 of 169, 41%
Trout 63 of 202, 31%

Total
Lara 150 of 446, 34
Trout 97 of 487, 20%

Chris John's 48 fight winning streak has come to an end, and with it go his WBA & IBO titles to Vetyeka.

On the Lucas Browne vs Clarence Tillman undercard last night, Australian champion Jake Carr added Zac Awad's scalp to his short, but impressive CV.

Carr is now 6 wins from 6 starts and his next date in the ring will be Feb 28th.

In an upset, Brian “The Beast” Minto (39-7, 25 KOs) has defeated Shane “Mountain Warrior” Cameron (29-4, 22 KOs) by TKO in round 6.

Big blow for Cameron.

Jake Carr's promoter Barry Michael has said he will next try and match him with #8 WBA ranked Junior Talipeau.

Would make for a great fight as so far Carr has taken all before him in his 6 fights. Including the national title.

Surprise result Maidana taking Adrien Broner's zero, his WBA title and knocking Broner down twice along the way.

Broner used social media to apologize to his fans for leaving the ring without comment after his loss >

"This is the face of a 3 time world champion in 3 different weight divisions. I am a man and first of all I want to say I'm sorry for running out on all the fans after my fight that was wrong of me as a fighter I want to congratulate team Chino and I want to thank everybody that supported the fight but I am not done this is just a minor set back for a major come back."

Probably high time someone took Broner down a peg or two.

Aussie IBO light heavyweight champion Blake Caparello has relinquished that title with the aim to head over to the USA for his next bout.

Gennady Golovkin moved to 29-0 after stopping Adama in round 7. Adama was down in the 1st round and again in the 7th.

Aussies Caparello and Fletcher both had good wins over the weekend. Caparello fought in the US, and Fletcher in Monte Carlo.

Caparello has now logged 19 wins and a draw from 20 fights, and has the look of a guy who could go on and win a respected world title some time down the track.
