Best football school in Australia

You can compile whatever lists you want. To make it sound good. Often clubs draft players from a remote area and put them in schools therefore making it look a little more attractive on paper.

Congratulations to MGS on an undefeated season and APS premiers in the strongest school comp in the country. St Kevins all class in defeat.

Is that the same MGS that lost to PAC by 10 goals at the start of the year and then lost by 101 points to St. Peter's College after failing to kick a single goal?
Pretty big turn around!

I Personally think the best School Footy side in Victoria is defiantly Melbourne Grammar School they won the APS with an undefeated season (10-0) such a tight knit group of blokes who back up their chemistry with immense skills. Would love to see how they go on a national scale

It is worth noting that if you are serious about trying to become an AFL footballer a good way to increase your chances is to NOT go to a private school. At least some of the TAC sides I know of have a policy of taking half private schoolboys and half public schoolboys. Given that many of the good players go to the private schools you increase your chances by not doing so.

Some of the better public schools in the eastern suburbs to increase your chances are Lilydale High if you are in Eastern ranges zone, and Box hill Senior secondary college if you are in the Oakleigh Chargers zone.

I couldn't disagree more with that statement, 7 of the top 10 went to private schools last year. Billings, Langdon, Jay Ken, all private school kids who debuted on the weekend. Private schools have more cash to spend on coaching, facilities and equipment. Going to Lilydale High or Box Hill sec, arent gonna get you drafted. Being a good player, working hard, and being coached well will, thats how you increase your chances, not dropping out of a private school to go to Lilydale High so you can play eastern rangers.

Unbelievably ludicrous. The nature in which private school students (in Langdon's case, one of the most prestigious schools in the world) are raised is so beneficial to club to the point where if it came down to two identicle players, you'd pick the private school student due to the financial power of these schools allowing for the highest quality coaches and staff's ability to share knowledge and leadership qualities, right from preparatory all the through to high school.

In fact Melbourne Grammar hired Mehmet Durakovic, ex Victory coach, as their First XI coach last year. You're telling me that you'd rather sign a kid who has been coached by an amateur soccer coach making $30 an hour, compared to a kid who's been taught under a former elite coach?

So you say two players are identical.

If one got to that standard under an ex Victory coach well he is still a good player. But how much upside?
If the other identical player got to that standard under an amateur cost well he must be a really good player with lots of upside.

If one kids had a terrific coach and still only at a certain level, whereas another kid reaches that level despite having s**t coaches, well that kid could really excel under good coaches.

Doesn't St Pats in Ballarat win the Herald Sun shield almost every year.. I am not sure what AFL players are alumni though.

St Pat's is aiming for an unprecedented 5 consecutive Herald Shield Titles this year and have 20 Old Collegians presently on an AFL List: Drew Petrie (Kangaroos) Matt Rosa (WCE) Clinton Young (Collingwood) Sean Grigg (Richmond) Mitchell Brown (WCE) Nathan Brown (Collingwood) Daniel Nicholson (Melbourne) Nick Suban (Fremantle) Josh Cowan (Geelong) Tom McDonald (Melbourne) Nick O'Brien (Essendon) Brad Crouch (Adelaide) Martin Gleeson (Essendon) Michael Close (Brisbane) Tanner Smith (Fremantle) Tom Downie (GWS) Jake Neade (Port Adelaide) Dom Barry (Melbourne) Matt Crouch (Adelaide) Dallas Wilsmore (Hawthorn). In addition to this St Pat's currently have 6 boys playing in the U/18 National Carnival (Liam Duggan VM) Brenton Payne (VM) Daniel Butler (VC) Tom Templeton (VC) Jacob Hopper (NSW) and Mickitja Rotumah Onus (NT) with the real prospect that some of tese boys will be on an AFL list over the next two years.

Think St. Pat's is almost forgotten amongst the Melbourne private schools because they aren't a part of the APS. The school has lost one game since 2009 - whilst it may be argued some of the opposition hasn't been terrific. They have beaten the likes of Assumption, St. Kevin's, PEGS, St. Joseph's Geelong along the way. Hard to go past them as a top tier school in the nation, regards of the competition they play in.
