Preview Faceoff Round 18 Adelaide vs Collingwood

I think Laird will have a spell in the SANFL as well, but I would rather see Grigg rewarded after his brilliant game against South.
I'd imagine whoever comes in will be sub, to which Grigg seems more suited/has more experience in than Crouch, and obviously Grigg played very well against South. So yeah, Grigg in would be fine as well, I certainly wouldn't be upset.

To me, Crouch has the better form over a longer period, and putting in a clearance specialist would place extra pressure on Collingwood's inside midfield, especially with their outs (plus, you know, who doesn't want to see the Crouch brothers united in the AFL for the first time? :D)

Why? Maxwell is s**t and Ball has been contributing nothing at all. You're getting caught up in surnames. They've regained Reid up forward as well and suddenly their attack looks pretty awesome.

agree

YES Maxwell, Ball and Swan are all big names however the trio have struggled badly all year

Elliott and Reid are big ins and gives them more firepower up forward while Broomhead and Martin cme in with excellent VFL form behind them

Potential Matchups

IMO, our forward line can really stretch the Pies. We must take advantage of isolating the player(s) who get on top of their opponent. Got a feeling it may be JJ v Keeffe - should have too much mobility.

As for the midfield matchups - we must play respect to Pendles, Beams (though been out of form) & to a lesser extent Sidebottom. I would play Sloane on Pendles, with Smith as backup (rotate perhaps). Whilst Swann & Ball are big outs on paper - Pies are better off as they have both been down on form as playing injured.

Backline - Talia must go to Cloke when he plays deep ... but if he roams further up the ground, Otten should switch to maintain our structure. Elliott, their leading/clever goal-kicker & Reid are big ins & their forward line look more dangerous - hopefully they are underdone. Brown hopefully up for another shut-down role on Elliot & LT on Reid. Whilst the Pies forward line the most dangerous for a while, I think our defence looks the best for quite a while - lots of pace & flexibility to match.

Think we killed the Pies hoodoo at Adelaide Oval & we are in better form. Crows to win & make the finals.

Bring the intensity we did against them earlier this year we will thump em.

Play like the lame ducks we have been at times this year and we will get pumped.

Game is for us to win or lose. Collingwood are playing shite footy at the moment and we need to make the most of it.

Elliott was dismantled by Brown in our earlier game this year. Lets hope he can do it again!

Just wondering whether it would be a good idea to play Hendo or Smith on Elliot? The kid is a gun in the air and it's what he scores most of his goals from. I'm not sure Brown could match him in this aspect..

Forgot he was coming back. Our back line is gonna have their hands full, our relatively inexperienced back line at that. Swan & Maxwell out isn't that exciting for us when both have been relatively poor this year.

I saw about 3/4 of the Hawthorn game but did notice that they had 8 shots on goal (5,3) which were run-in shots with little or zero pressure. That may have been more from lack of mid-field defensive pressure but I agree, our backs are going to be under the pump if we repeat the dose.

Brown did the job last time - so don't mess with what works as the 1st option.

Wasn't an issue earlier in the year (as pointed out by others) :)

nick maxwell out is a benefit to collingwood if anything

I have always rated Maxwell above what is apparently now the majority view. One of those players from other clubs I have admired from afar. Pure determination. Everyone who think's of him as an old crap player is missing his role - he coaches that defence on the field, and I think they will be less formidable to break down without him.

He was right to retire, but don't think he won't be missed by that defensive group.

BTW calling a former Collingwood Captain (and a Premiership one at that) "s**t" is bit beyond the pale, how about a respectful "past his best" ?

The selectors have done a much better job this year although the bringng back of Porps for the Hawthorn game was a mistake in my book.

They have brought people back into the side who are in form in the reserves and given some people the chance to gain some confidence eg Martin.

Look at whats happned of late - Reilly, Porps, Rutten all have been moved out of the side at various stages for younger players. The transformation of the team is occurring and pace is beginning to be added to the side - if Cameron was fit he would be in the side; Ricky has come back in - Thompson is in.

We still have some way to go but the midfield is looking stronger by the week with the addition of Brad Crouch and hopefully at some stage BOB and the Lyon king. We could even put Paddy on a wing or half back flank for some of the game.

I have been much happier this year with the selections and the consistency of selection for the most part.

Imo Brown has been the quiet achiever all year

Ohh don't get me wrong I rate Brown very very highly. Is almost as important as getting Betts. Betts is the small fwd we've been missing and Brown is stopping the small fwds that tear us apart. Just nervous about his aerial ability.

i meant that not only is he past his best, but it benefits them because of the fact that he WAS the premiership captain. they will want to win for him like brisbane for brown.
