What a surprise! Hawthorn and Collingwood protected again.

What a surprise! Hawthorn and Collingwood protected again.
Well it was either Freo v Port or Collingwood v Hawthorn on the Friday night, given that only those two games feature two sides with a realistic chance of making the finals. Hawthorn v Collingwood is a blockbuster so it gets top billing. Fairly obvious.

How is Hawthorn being protected by getting 2 6-day breaks in a row?

We were never going to get the Friday night game as we play Sunday in R22

Edit:

Also, FWIW. I think rounds 21-23 should be up in the air, to eliminate any chance of back-to-back 6 day breaks or 6 day breaks v 8 day breaks (Hawthorn with b2b 6 day breaks and Fremantle with a 6 day break v Port with an 8 day break - plus we are coming from Brisbane the week before). They are the only real issues I have with R23

FFS another sunday twilight s**t time slot for the dog. Who would've guessed?:rolleyes:

North v Melbourne or Geelong v Brisbane, which is likely to be the Saturday night free-to-air game? Can't find anything about television slots on the AFL site, presumably the other three would be Collingwood/Hawthorn (Friday night), Carlton/Essendon (Saturday afternoon) and Adelaide/St Kilda (Sunday afternoon) but this one's not clear.

Make the finals, then complain. That match was always going to be the last one with two teams not in finals contention.

It's our third home game in this timeslot for the year (without the next day being a public holiday) and the AFL would have very strongly suspected this would be the case when they did the 2014 draw and scheduled us for a round 23 home game against last year's wooden spooners. Gold Coast have not had to endure one Sunday twilight home game in four years. All 18 clubs should share equally the burden of Sunday twilight (local time) matches.

North v Melbourne got that timeslot, last H&A game of the season, a few years ago when neither was in contention but both were thought to be up and coming. It was a cracking game that everyone who saw it enjoyed a lot. Wouldn't be surprised of Dogs v Giants went the same way.

According to this article - Cats vs Lions is the FTA game that night!

Geelong-Brisbane is the Saturday night 7 game.

Jeebus...another night game at the cattery. Another game I won't be going to.
What's the problem with Saturday night games?

I fully understand the Friday Night and Thursday night arguments. But is Saturday night really that much of an issue?
