One thing I was a bit confused with was Day 4 and 5 in the Division 1 and 2 sections:

On the first day it lists all the matches as the old McIntyre system, so 5v12, 6v11 etc, and 13v18, 14v17 etc. But the second day has 5v6, 7v8 etc, and 13v14, 15v16 etc.

So will teams be re-seeded after Day 4, making the Day 5 games Highest ranked winner vs Second Highest ranked winner and so on down (essentially 3rd/4th playoffs and so on) or will they use the rankings after Day 3, and create a 2-game round robin between the divisions?

If the latter, it seems like an odd round robin that, for example, the 5th placed team will play the bottom of the division, and then the second-to-top of the division.

It hasn't been explained very well has it. I think you are correct, the initial rounds act as seeding rounds, then they are divided into divisions, Due to the difficulty judging the relative strengths of the teams prior to the tournament

From my reading it goes like this
There are 3 pools of 6 teams, each team plays 3 other teams in their pool, in the so called seeding round, which it isn't at all.
After the first three matches, all the teams and there results are put into a full 18 team ladder. the top 4 go straight into the finals, 5-12 make up Div 1 and 13-18 make up Div 2.
It's a really confusing set up. the last two games are essentially irrelevant except for those in the finals.
Also the seeding and allocation into the pools is really strange. Indonesia 18th ranked is with Ireland (1) Nauru (6), Great Britain (7) Fiji (12) France (13) Doesn't seem really even to me. Also Fiji and France were the Div 2 finalists last time around.

Now I'm confused . Why?

Well they aren't irrelevant, they are still going to be great showcases for international footy, but the final 4 will be ascertained after the first 3 Pool games. So the final two games played will essentially be international friendlies for the teams not in the finals. They will move up and down the Division ladders, but wont partake in the finals.
So it looks like we will have an IC14 winner, a Div 1 winner and a Div 2 winner. That's what i've made of it. it's confusing and a very strange set up.

I share their concern. It may end up like the `world` side, composed of Australians of ethnic backgrounds, with a few international players thrown in for whatever reason. It makes for a multicultural team, not a world team. I think some must be allowed simply for the cost saving benefits, but there should be a limit. I do not think that limit should apply to players who have actually played in the home league. ie I think there should be a limit of perhaps 5 Australian based players, but that should not include players with experience in the `home` league. Any Irish players who have played for a club in Ireland count as Irish players, not Australian players, even if they are playing in Australia at the time of the cup.

That's what we've had before - different division winners and it's an important facet of the cup.

It'd really good that a large number of players are coming to Australia to better their football. That should always be encouraged.
In first division it may be an idea to further restrict players to those that have played in their home competitions at some time.

strange draw released by the AFL. Great Britain look like they have a good chance to finish as the 4th ranked team if they can beat Nauru. This is because they dont play the top team in their Pool, Ireland. USA probably has to beat NZ to go through. Or else it will come down to percentage and the teams battling for 4th spot (USA, SAF, Naura and GB) will all be pushing to obliterate the weak team in their draw to ensure % is healthy rather than give game time to lesser players and keep scoreboard somewhat reasonable. Should have done 4 pools of teams (2 pools with 4 teams and 2 pools would have had 5 teams). The re-seed into similar level teams for 2 remaining rounds. Also silly that USA plays Canada again (they play every year and is the only country both play each year).

Having re-read the fixture, the notation on Day 5 is the same as in the Grand Final and 3rd/4th playoff, so I think the first option in my question was correct. So the Day 4-6 format will be like this (Day 4 in the middle):

Wait, never mind, that's not it. The site has put up an explanation (or I missed the first nine times) of the Divisional matches.

The ladder position based on Days 1-3 decide who you play on Day 4; the Day 4 result combined with the first three days' results decides the ladder of each division after Day 4, and then the Day 5 games are paired (1st and 2nd in Division 1 play for 5th/6th and so on, and 1st and 2nd in Division 2 play for 13th/14th and so on).

So Days 1-3 decide your division (and your Day 4 opponent), and Days 1-4 decide your final opponent.

I can confirm (on behalf of VWFLRadio.com) that we will be broadcasting a VWFL/IC14 double-header in the community round.

On Saturday 16th August, we'll be on-air for the Diamond Creek v Melbourne Uni VWFL Premier Division match, and then will roll into calling the Ireland v USA Liberty match straight afterwards.

If I can get time off work, we might suss out calling the IC14 Women's play-offs and Grand Final

I see the Kiwis had a warm up win over Ormond. As luck would have it, due to work and local footy, it looks like I wont be able to get to any games other than maybe the final if the Kiwis are playing.

Good luck to all sides over the next week or so.

Tomorrow the Women's IC14 match between Ireland and USA Liberty at Plenty Park will be broadcast on VWFLRadio.com

Broadcast of the match should be from around 2pm, after the VWFL Diamond Creek v Melbourne Uni game has concluded.

At the moment only one commentator is slotted in to call (me!), but hopefully a special comments person will be found at the last minute (and volunteers?).
