Really great pick-up, I've been hoping we bag him for the last couple of years. Really strong pedigree, great links to the club, heard nothing but good things about his skills and manner

what do you do?

:p

I would assume he oversees the coaching department / welfare and ensure that they operate within the club structures and value systems in order to achieve the desired outcomes based on where we are at now as opposed to where we want to be in 5 years time.

In layman's terms: I have NFI

Well to put it simply:

While it has been AFL policy to regard policy as a responsibility of Coaches and administration as a responsibility of Officials, the questions of administrative policy can cause confusion between the policy of administration and the administration of policy, especially when responsibility for the administration of the policy of administration conflicts, or overlaps with, responsibility for the policy of the administration of policy....

So we need a Director that is directly responsible for the responsibility of administering the administration of Coaching and allow the responsibility to responsibly Coach to go to the Coach who will not have to bear responsibility to responsibly administer the administration of the Coaching which will fall to the Director of Coaching.

I hope that cleared it up for you all directly.

Not sure what Director of Coaching does but I am glad he is coming from the Hawks.

Another Beveridge at the Saints...I'll drink to that!
Actually, he's the son of our beloved recruiter. :)

Yes I heard that yrs ago but I never knew if it was 100% correct. Makes a nice connection if its true:thumbsu:
I remember Luke playing for us. Think we were his 3rd club. Was always in and out of the team but was a very good kick.

Assistant Coach Luke Beveridge will depart Hawthorn at the end of the season after accepting a position with St Kilda Football Club.

Beveridge has accepted the position of Director of Coaching at the Saints for season 2015.

Arriving at Hawthorn in 2011, Beveridge has overseen the Club’s backline and was a valued member of the coaching group that led the side to premiership success in 2013.

Hawthorn GM – Football Operations Chris Fagan said the Club was disappointed to be farewelling a coach of Beveridge’s credentials.

“Luke’s been a fantastic contributor to our coaching team over the past three years, he’s developed great relationships with the playing group and has established a backline that’s well respected across the league,” Fagan said.

“Despite having offered Luke a contract to remain at the Club beyond 2014, we understand his aspirations to step into a more senior role and this position at St Kilda allows him to do so.”

Congratulations Bevo, it must be good to back where you belong working with your old man at the Saints..A true professional with a great understanding of what's required to be a success as an AFL footballer..Played a lot of footy with Bevo in the early days, & he would never give less than 100% every time..

Grandpa Bevo was a Collingwood premiership also..The Beveridge family are a product of St.Peter's FC in East Bentleigh. John coached myself, with Luke a teammate in the early 80's..John jnr was a better footballer than his younger brother Luke, but chose golf over a career in AFL footy..

First move should be to implement my Arryn Siposs = Matty Suckling brainwashing program. Good get Saints.

I do wonder though; Didn't the AFLCA recently pass a ruling that teams couldn't approach coaches until the end of the season? They wanted to avoid clubs having to make a call on people who are going to new clubs. The Hawks would have to feel kind of weird feeding Bevo with all their IP knowing he is coming to the Saints in 3 months time.

I'm sure they'd be very worried if we were half decent.

Director of coaching?

Love to know what the actual role is?

I am not sure he (hopefully) will be bringing across any game plan.
Firstly .... That plan works at Hawthorn because of their list
Secondly ... It's never a good idea to copy anything... The moment you do that, you're already behind.
Thirdly .... AR sets the GP

Luke has a good record.... But is he going to be coaching?

Like Eade, Thompson and others... It seems tokenistic? Is the title an oxymoron?

The role to me, seems like an added control set in place to help monitor and coordinate the right messages and behaviours between the Board and the coaching staff. I think it will serve to improve coordination of our coaching resources and also thereby improving communication within the club. If this is the case, I'm all for it IMO.

The way I see it without any inside knowledge is;

CP Head of Football
AB TPP Manager
AR Head Coach
LB Director of Coaching, overseeing 3 line coaches, 3 Development coaches, Sandy coach & assistant coaches.
I suppose you could say he will be the coaches coach

Is there really a need for all of those chiefs?

Is Luke the coaches boss?

IMO the coach is employed to oversee onfield performance, and is the most responsible for it.... The buck stops with him...
He is the football boss
He reports to footy manager.... But sets the agenda
Working with him
Line coaches, Specialist coaches, Development Coaches, High Performance Manager

High Performance manager
Working with him All fitness, rehab staff, psychology and Wellbeing, nutrition & Senior Coach

The footy manager
Is the conduit between board and footy dept and oversees the entire footy dept and acts as a support resource.
Coach reports to him

List manager
Self explanatory
Reports to footy manager.
Working with him.... Coach, Head recruiter, Scouts

Funny... people arguing his relevance and yet no one knows what his role is.

As it stands we have a senior coach and his assistants.

Then we have the Academy with McPhee and his assistants.

Just as line coaches have their specific roles and report to the head coach (as well as impart instructions on behalf of the head coach)...

with so many coaches and levels, I would assume that Bevo's role is to oversee all areas above and then report to CP... Rather than have everyone reporting to CP.

This would allow each coach to get on with their job. Bevo is the conduit between coaches and footy dept.

It is a newly created role and obviously the club sees a need for it given its intentions to expand and set up a VFL team.
