The race for finals

I posted this on the Essendon board about the VFL run home, I thought it'd be interesting to put it here as well. These are the teams in contention for the last 3 places in the 8 (assuming Port, Willy, Footscray, Box Hill and Werribee finish top 5)

Collingwood (7-5): Werribee (5th), Frankston (15th), Box Hill (3rd), Essendon (9th), Geelong (11th), Bendigo (16th). Prediction: 10-8, 6th
Northern Blues (7-5): North Ballarat (10th), Werribee (5th), Casey (14th), Williamstown (4th), Port Melbourne (1st), Box Hill (3rd). Prediction: 8-10, 11th
Sandringham (6-5-1): Frankston (15th), Geelong (11th), Richmond (12th), Coburg (13th), Werribee (5th), Williamstown (4th). Prediction: 9-8-1, 7th/8th
Essendon (6-5-1): Port Melbourne (1st), Footscray (2nd), Williamstown (4th), Collingwood (6th), Richmond (12th), Geelong (11th). Prediction: 9-8-1, 7th/8th
North Ballarat (6-6): Northern Blues (7th), Bendigo (16th), Coburg (13th), Geelong (11th), Williamstown (4th), Port Melbourne (1st). Prediction: 9-9, 9th/10th
Geelong (6-6): Richmond (12th), Sandringham (8th), Frankston (15th), North Ballarat (10th), Collingwood (6th), Essendon (9th). Prediction: 9-9, 9th/10th

Bolded are wins, italics 50/50, normal losses.

I think Sandringham's form might improve slightly for the rest of the year because St Kilda now has fewer injuries - and senior players on their way out like Gwilt, Jones etc. will probably play there. Given their run home, I would expect Sandy to make the 8.

Interesting that you have some of those Essendon matches as 50/50, I wouldn't expect them to win any of those and I would probably have the match against Geelong as 50/50 as well.

I should have them all as 50/50's with Essendon. Our VFL side is like North in the AFL, nobody knows what the * will happen. Our game against BH was excellent, that's what makes me lean towards to those as 50/50's, but on the other hand we lost to Casey and drew with Frankston so it's really unpredictable what we're going to produce

Well with Collingwood defeating Werribee yesterday and Essendon getting robbed vs Port that changes the dynamic a lot. Richmond beating Geelong almost seals their place outside the 8 with a tough draw. Box Hill beating Footscray helps us, and the Roosters vs the Blues is a crucial match too.

It looks like Werribee, Sandringham & Geelong are fighting for the last 2 spots. Geelong v Collingwood will be a big match at 11am Saturday. Geelong lose and it may be all over for them.
A lot riding on the Werribee vs Sandringham game. If Sandi get up, definitely no finals for Essendon VFL and Northern Blues. But if they don't, they have Williamstown the following week. So basically:

Sandringham: Werribee (50/50), Williamstown (L)
Geelong: Collingwood (L), Essendon (50/50)
Northern Blues: Port Melbourne (L), Box Hill (L)
Essendon: Richmond (W), Geelong (50/50)

Did't looks that deep into it. I'd hae the Cats v Pies as 50/50, the game is in Geelong and I don't know when our VFL last won at the ground.

I was at the Essendon vs Collingwood game on the weekend, if you protect your defence as well as you did I can't see you losing. Geelong's VFL side is poor apart from their forward line

I hope you're right, we've got Bendigo the following week, so I'm hoping we finish 5-6, not that we'll get a final at Victoria Park. I'd be happy if the final as televised on TV.

If you finish 5th and Essendon 8th I'd be pretty sure that'd be the TV match, no disrespect to the other final (which would be NB vs Werribee)

Won't happen.
VFL get the gate for the finals, so it has to be at a ground where they can charge admission, sadly Whitten Oval needs temp fencing for that to happen

That's the same with us and Victoria Park, the council won't let us fence it off. one should they probably.

Have earned the right in any event.

Probably won't get televised as the ABC just loves Port Melbourne who will get their own final and 1 more in the first week alone.

Port Melbourne's ground has a fence they can close off. And have no conflicts with AFL commitments. The finals are an awesome revenue earner for a true VFA/VFL Stand-alone club.

Go the mighty Borough!

One possible change coming into the last round. If Essendon beat Geelong, the top 8 is locked in. But with Werribee playing Frankston it's hard to see it changing.

Was lucky enough to get to the last Port Melbourne GF win against Williamstown and have to say it was just an awesome day. Would love to see them win it again.
