How many All Australians for us in 2014?

The problem is that the media is too stats driven.

Hawks play a team game more than anyone. As a team we are usually on par with opponents for disposals etc but on the individual level we have 4-5 players on 22-28 disposals. Whereas opponents will have a player or 2 on 30+ but then more players that don't contribute.

Media just look at stats when deciding the AA team.

There is also a tendency to continually pick the same players even if they haven't been as good.

And sometimes they ignore them! Nicnat says 'hello'!

Bruest and Lewis the best chances.

Agree. I think Breust is a certainty while Lewis could make an appearance, especially if he finishes the last 2 games in his current form.

Gunston won't get there and Rough is a maybe if he finishes the final 2 games well.

Agree - they only seem to look at the numbers accumulated statistically, which shits me no end - what good is accumulating 40 touches if 50% or more are clangers?

AFL website has 6 Hawks In contention plus make comments regarding that pretty much 5 of them in the 22!! Isaac Smith is included instead of Burgoyne and the other five are as exactly the same as we've mentioned. Lewis and Breust they believe, are locks with Roughead, Hodge and Gunston just need to finish the season well and AA beckons! I was pleasantly surprised that the article seemed so in our favour in regards to AA selections.

I never understand why birchall isn't mentioned. He is never beaten and he never turns the ball over. He is an absolute gun.

All Australian last year.

Pretty hard to get Enright's spot in the team. The bloke just needs to be on the field to get AA it seems. Afl.com think he is in contention despite being rather poor this year.

Bruest and Lewis are certainties. Lewis may end up on the bench if quiet in the final two rounds, but he'll be in the 22.
If Roughead is top 2 in the Coleman he would have to make it. Buddy is the only certain KPF, and even then you can put him on the HFF and nobody would complain. Other options have dropped off over the past month (Schulz and Hawkins) so Roughy is a strong chance.
Hodge again could get a bench spot, they may try and fit him in there just to have him as the C/VC of the team.

Gunston I personally don't think would make it, though would be deserving of the spot if he does. Should finish with multiple AAs in his career anyway, it is just a matter of time.

A popularity contest that picks individuals out of different teams, in a team sport.
Were winning or how well a person plays in a team does not seem important and that does not include the most important part of the year, finals games.

Does anybody at Hawthorn score enough dream team points to make it?

Of the 7 players who have won more ball on average than Lewis, Ablett, and Watson haven't played enough games for AA. That leaves Rockliff, Priddis, Kennedy, Pendelbury and Heppell. You can ount out Clanger-Priddis. Assuming Kennedy and Rockliff will be just about certainties then you still have one more on baller plus two wing positions to fit Lewis on the field (assuming they don't name him on a forward flank) and four interchange positions. HE is a great shot at getting an AA. Obviously guys like Selwood, Fyfe and maybe even Dangerfield will need to be considered but looking at numbers Lewis stacks up against pretty much anyone.

Hodge's numbers are pretty awesome for a mid full stop but especially for a guy who plays half his time at half back. Will be top two in our B&F.

Breust is a certainty.

Roughy will be in short of two zero goal weeks. Second in the colman and easily the second best goals per game average. Had a great season. Two suspensions probably cost him the colman.

Birchall is an outstanding player and had another very good year. Probably a little down on 2012/2013 form but comparatively with other HBF he has had an outstanding year. Battling Heppell (who has played more midfield this year) and Hodge for HBF honours. Probably behind those two but may get in depending on where they name players.

The other two with outside chances are Gunston and Smith. both had great seasons but face tough opposition for a spot in the team. Smith is the best wingman in the comp but will probably lose his spot to an inside mid.

Given that we have been the best team by a country mile these past 3 seasons, & have only averaged 2 players per season in that time, then don't expect that scenario to change anytime soon....After all we are not Geelong, even though if we win it this year our record will be just as comparable.

The AA awards have lost any cred whatsoever, most especially so since that utter tosser Healy has been its head moron over the past decade!

We are pretty much the only club that doesn't end up with what was described above, mostly because of our depth and cohesion.

It is so obvious that this team plays for each other and the club rather than themselves.

Only occasionally might we have an individual standout if we play a really poor game.

Burgoyne will never make it in the AA team. Despite being pure class, rarely making a mistake and the ability to play anywhere and everywhere over the ground, his stats don't look good and he's not a media darling. The ultimate quiet achiever.

Perfect.

Love the way he goes about.

Some others (outside of HFC) could take some lessons.

Very humble and extremely professional when interviewed.

Would be a good person to go on in some kind of mentoring role when he is done playing.

If they had an AA Finals squad, Burgs would be a lock.
He is a rare player that gets better, the tougher it gets.
Made for finals.
