No one over 27-28 years old.

Sorry but we aren't winning a flag in the next 2 seasons why recruit anyone at all over that age, even if they are "free" (as in free agents).

Keep building until we are close then and only then launch after the best older players available.

As for needs;

Defensive depth, both small and tall, maybe state league players are worth a look here.

Midfielders, more inside than out, can only see Adams as reliable going forward as an inside mid.

Small/medium forwards.
Im only interested in players born 1988 or afterwoods.
Im particularly keen on players born 1992-1994 who are starved for opportunity.

Whiley is someone id be targeting, good 4th 5th string midfielder at any club, good height, good price and hes hard at the footy. Someone who can average 20-25 disposals a season at AFL if he tries to win his own ball, but can tag if you need him too(Handy if a player has a dominating first quarter, just chuck on him Whiley to play a run with role instead of a full negating role).

Exchange of 3rd round picks kind of deal, and he takes Macaffers spot in the side.

Offer Whiley money instead - Im pretty sure GWS hasnt ever used a third round pick in it's existence.

Note Whiley's game against Melbourne has had his file stamped 'Miles mk two' at Tigerland.

Our biggest need is a KPF to take over from Cloke. Cloke won't be around for too much longer so we need to get someone in to take over like cloke did from Rocca.

In regards to OP, I don't think a 3rd defender is that much of a need atm unless he is ready made.

Agree - No Old Players as we are now in a Re-Build.

Though I would not mind a Mature Age Ruckman to help Witts and Grundy for a Few more Seasons.

Agree we need some good outside MIds who use the ball so can go along side Adams very well

As I posted in Knightmares thread - Given we are certain to pick up Moore with first pick (which may address kpf needs), I think more accumulators/ball winners in the middle are required and also X factor small forwards (with crumbing ability a focus).

I think there are likely to be some awesome options late in the draft which could prove to be steals including:
Mids - Urban, Wilkinson, Steele and Grace
Small fwd - Anderson, Langdon (sort of) and McLean

I've got a recruiting hard on for urban and grace and think they are ridiculously underrated. I really hope we consider both.

Need a young key forward in the draft, (Moore) I hope we get him second round so then we can use our first pick drafting a good young mid who wins his own footy and uses the ball well

2-3 more quality mids.
A bigger experienced ball magnet. To replace Swan.
A goal kicking mid. To replace Didak.
A big game player. To replace Daisy.

As for the third tall defender, just play Keeffe, Frost and Brown in the same team, whilst we wait for Scharenberg and Langdon to get stronger.
Goldsack has enough strength to play as a 3rd tall defender too. In fact, that is where he should be probably playing. I don't like him in the forward line, he doesn't kick enough goals.

Id be more on the side of keeping Broomhead, and trading our second rounder plus steak knives for Clurey if needed.

Don't think he was suggesting trading him. More the worry that he hasn't signed yet and could be on the move.

Would be Great to get Moore in then 2nd round but I give it 5% chance at most on Happening

I'd like to see us pick up the following via trade/fa/draft: a key position forward and a fast and skillful half forward. In the midfield a strong bodied inside mid and an outside mid with speed that can break the lines. Picking guys that can use the football well must also be a big consideration.

Make Whiley want to come to us and GWS will let us have him for a packet of chips. Whereas Mitchell is a highly rated F/S who Sydney will want to keep.

Also, Whiley is 188cm vs Mitchell's 181cm, won't deny I'd rather have the bigger bloke.

If Rosa is available still then he would be able to fill the reduction in run from an aging Swan. He might not have the best reputation but he will run up and down the ground all day providing options.

I am sure He Re-Signed with the Eagles

I think we have three major deficits at the moment - quality key position youngsters, a Langdon/Scharenberg clone (tall, versatile, strong 1v1, quick, skilled, composed, leadership ability and fantastic reader of play) on the wing to compliment Seedsman and big bodied inside mids.

Pendles and Beams are too inside at the moment. They're more than capable as in and under players, but they're best utilised as inside receivers (Pendles especially) where they receive or pounce on a ball in congestion then use their skills to clear it or pass it on to someone in a better position. We had Swan, Ball, Wellingham, even Daisy to share the load with part timers like Blair in the past. It's one reason why our midfield isn't great at contested ball anymore, or damaging when we do win the ball. The wrong people are winning the ball, farming it off to the wrong people, and they're not winning it frequently enough to boot.

With Swan playing a more outside game than ever due to injury, all we have is Adams (injured) while part timers like Blair, Kennedy, Broomhead and even Lumumba are being forced too much grunt work when they're small, easily brushed aside or just not good at it (despite their collective hardness for the contest).

It's why I want to get Whiley - him plus Freeman and Karnezis goes a long way in addressing the imbalance.

I think our need for a specialist small forward is somewhat overstated. If we get the balance for our mids right, that means more time can be spent forward by the likes of Sidebottom, Broomhead, Swan and Kennedy in addition to our permanent forward Elliott.

I'd be happy to bring in a good crumbing forward, but I just don't get the interest in Jeff Garlett, I really don't. Attack the draft and pick up a Charlie Cameron instead. Garlett is inconsistent in effort, which we really don't need right now. Has nothing to do with being a small forward, he just has games where he doesn't want to chase, or do anything in general but get fed goals. Then he comes with baggage on top. Do not want.

The only top 4 team that plays specialist small forwards is Freo (Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong all rotate their small forwards through the midfield), and the reason they have the ability to do that is because their midfield unit is so damn big. Even then, there is talk of Walters playing midfield in the future.

Midfield depth.

Using last year as an example Bernie Vince and/or Nicky Dal would have been massive for us.
We have three midfielders and then lots of young players who may or may not become good midfielders.
Recruiting young mids is welcomed but i would also like us too look at some mature bodies.

Crumbing Forward.

Elliot can crumb but is more of a lead up forward. Kennedy and Broomy can crumb but they are too young to be consistent and will be used a lot in the midfield.
Jeff Garlett? Any good ones in the Draft?

Pace.

Would give up a fair bit for a Yarran, Stephen Hill or Brad Hill. We need some good 80 metre players with foot speed and good skills.
I have faith that Young will come good, Freeman could grow into a quality player but I still think that is a gap in our list.

Midfield depth I think we should chase Aaron Young or Whiley from GWS.

Crumbing small forward, from what I've heard the best small forwards in the draft are the Elliot and Maccaffer types. Jeff Garlett I'd jump at.

As for pace, Tim Broomhead.

Maybe an unknown to many fans, but Angus Litherland is a must look to trade for. Very strong, can play one on one has a long powerful kick. Played some absolutely awesome games for the hawks this year.

Maybe we should also look at Ceglar

According to general feedback we need: another kp backman, a rebounding defender, a pacey wingman, a strong midfielder to add grunt, an explosive midfielder, an outside midfielder with skill, goal kicking forward/mid, kpf to replace cloke, 3rd tall forward, crumbing forward and an experienced ruck.
