as if Rodger Dodger had any credibility left the Gordon thing is bull s**t, If his "B" sample was the "A" he would be fine. also it seems that Drinking a beer while on probation is 2x worse than KO'ing your wife in a public place. and having bad luck with which sample was your A sample for another failed drug test by the smallest margin is 8x worse than Ko'ing your wife in a casino elevator on camera. And now Gordon will miss all of Pre-season and TC' next year because its a 365 day suspension. Ohh and how can we forget if a College player punches a girl he gets a year long suspension not 2 weeks. Bravo Rodger Bravo.

and then there is a football player making a football play with a big hit, that also seems to be as bad in the NFL's eyes as KO'ing your wife in public.

As if the NFL's recent suspensions were not already a complete joke. makes the Chook Lotto the MRP uses seem like its a legit system. What does the NFL use? get someone spin them around and have them throw a dart while dizzy and what it lands on is the punishment?

Agreed entirely. I read an article about Michael Vick today saying how disappointed he was in Ryley Cooper because apparently a few Philly players wanted to knock him out in training but Michael killed the idea.

That one will slip to the keeper too.

Gordon should have gone IMO but Rice has given a means for everyone to whip Goodall.

Unfortunately for Goodell and the NFL, they have set this precedent for suspensions with the Rice case. All suspensions are now being measured against it and people will compare things like alcohol/drug stuff against knocking seven shades of shite out of your wife.

Easiest thing for Goodell to say is "Yes, I made a mistake with Rice" and then make it clear the penalty will never be that low again.

Haha, yes, but can you ever forsee a day he admits to a mistake?

lol a mistake, it was a clusterf**k, he took a statement from Ray Rice's wife with Ray Rice sitting next to her. as if thats not going to pressure her to make it sound fine.

That's actually not true. As usual, Florio got that entirely wrong.

If that was true, you don't think the Browns would be threatening legal action and protesting this outcome?

This line from the article on the previous page sums it up for me;

Gordon, meanwhile, said his latest failed test is the result of second-hand smoke. If you're in Stage 3 of the league's drug program – one strike from a season-long ban and the loss of countless millions in a contract extension – why would anyone put themselves in such environs?
Even after news of his suspension broke on May 9, he was stopped for speeding in Strongsville over Memorial Day Weekend, and the officer smelled marijuana in the car. One of his three passengers was cited for possession. Two months later, police in North Carolina arrested him for drunk driving.

I don't think anyone disputes Gordon is a dick...it is more the comparisons in suspension (s) others have been getting compared to Rice.

I just want to see the Ravens fined for that shocking press conference with Rice.

Players know the risks of their actions from Drinking Under the Influence to taking drugs. No arguments there but the subjective penalties should be harsher for the team and the players.

A few lashes from the Cat o' nine tails will shape up quite a few of these malcontents.

The culmination on a beautiful pre-season comes today as Kellen Moore gets large amounts of gametime.

Hopefully he does extremely well before being cut in the next day or two.

He deserves better than to be a 3rd stringer at a franchise who's coach is an imbecile. Orlovsky as a backup? :drunk:

Sources tell ESPN that suspended Josh Gordon is exploring the possibility of playing the rest of the year in the Canadian Football League.

The Browns would have to give Gordon permission to do this, which they reportedly will not do. Understandably so, as they'd be exposing their most talented player -- one they have under contract very cheaply through 2016 -- to injury without any on-field benefit. Furthermore, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says CFL rules don't allow players under NFL contracts to play in the CFL -- only cut players can go north of the border. It's a nice idea for Gordon to stay in shape and have some structure during his suspension, but this one is not going to happen.

------

Suspended Josh Gordon will not accrue a season toward free agency in 2014.

When a player is suspended for a full year, his contract tolls. So instead of becoming a free agent in 2016, he won't be eligible until 2017. It's a sliver of good news for the Browns, as they'll still have an elite talent under contract cheaply for two seasons. Gordon doesn't turn 24 years old until April.

Hey, he's the only QB not named Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck to start in a win for the Colts since 1997, show some respect

The NFL has stiffened its penalties for domestic violence, instituting a six-game suspension for a first-time offense and "lifetime ban" for a second.
It's a direct response to the blistering criticism the league received after banning Ray Rice for only two games earlier this summer. Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted he "didn't get it right" in the Rice case. Now, a first time domestic-violence offense is no longer viewed as less serious than smoking marijuana. For a "lifetime" ban, an offender can "petition for reinstatement after one year."
